I have made dozens of them. It is best to use a two fold card. You then prick the design out on the centre panel. When you sew the design you hold the ends of the threads with a small amount of sticky tape. No knots. When you finish the design you the fold the end panel over it and stick it down. Christmas ones look nice in Gold, silver and holographic threads and you can use colours for other pictures. You can get hooked on it. Shirley

Thanks for the tips Shirley.

I already have some of the tri-fold cards with round windows cut in the center panel. I thought I might try to find card stock, do the embroidery, then tape the embroidered piece in the window.

Any suggestions as to where to get patterns?

thanks...Linda

Well there are some free ones on the site that you gave. I have done some of those patterns, the butterfly and flowers. I did them in a random dyed rayon thread.

There is also another place in UK where I got loads of my patterns from. It is

I knew I'd seen a major story on this somewhere. It is in the May/June issue of "Piecework" magazine, called "Flights of Fancy, the Dimensional use of perforated paper in the Victorian era." It shows purses, wallets, decorative baskets and several other items.
