flying?

Scissors are supposed to be okay now, right? What about knitting needles? (I just learned last week, never paid attention to that before...) We're hoping to get away without checking any bags, at least on the way out. It's a domestic flight (US), if that makes a difference.

When we flew to Japan last summer, I took the Clover pendant cutter to avoid any issues with scissors. I'm in Canada, and the rules may be a little different here. When we flew domestically at Christmas, my little folding scissors were allowed through. As far as knitting needles, I heard from one lady in our neighbourhood that bamboo was okay, but the best thing to do is still call your airline and double check. It's such a pain, isn't it? I can't imagine sitting on an airplane with nothing todo. Happily crafting passengers are probably easy passngers. When is your trip? Up here, as the different "high seasons" approach, the regulations are sometimes stiffened.

Check out the TSA web site, and it will tell you everything you need to know! By the way, there is a very specific rule now about all liquids and gels, and if you don't follow it to the letter they will take it away from you at the very least! It concerns amounts -- (no more than 3 oz. of a product) -- what to pack it in -- (a clear 1 quart plastic zip-top bag) -- and where to put it -- (on top of your luggage since it needs to be put through the screening separately) Also, you can only take ONE zip-top bag, and it all has to fit in that bag, so you need to pack very carefully! This includes toothpaste, sunscreen, makeup, shampoo, etc. CHECK THE WEB SITE!!!!!

Depends who's checking you. I bought a pair of round-tip kindergarten scissors for 49c at WalMart before my last flight. If they took them away, I wouldn't care.

Yup, I know about the liquids rule, and finally managed to find a 2 oz. bottle of lens solution at CVS last week. But what I've heard in the past is that what's allowed varies drastically depending on the TSA folks, so I figured it was worth asking.

It's just an overnight trip for a wedding, we're leaving tomorrow morning, so we won't need much, and will probably buy a bottle of sunblock out there.

That's the way to go!

I always figure, if I'm staying in a hotel, they're going to give me a bottle of shampoo, so no need to bring my own. Since I don't go to the far side of nowhere, I can find someplace to buy whatever I need when I get there.

Unfortunately I can`t do ANYTHING but just sit there, doing ANY form of travelling. The only thing that has never made me sick whilst on the move is a horse - and I defy anyone to stitch while riding!!!

LOL - I'm with you on that motion thing. And the last time I multitasked on a horse - at age 11 - adjusting a stirrup while gently cantering around a practice ring, and holding 4 reins in the left hand, and trying my friends boots that were a bit large, and then said friend passed us and took a jump, and, well, we took off, and after my lovely fractious mare stumbled on a rut, I went head over teakettle landing face up on the dirt with a shattered wrist, radius and ulna. Not trying to stitch and ride.....

For the record, I didn't have any problems with my 3" scissors or knitting needles, either way. I am now going to collapse in a heap, I am WIPED.
