Help identifying chartt/designer

I have come to the fountain of knowledge for assistance in helping a customer. She came into the shop yesterday requesting bird charts. I immediately suggested Crosswing, but she says they don't do "land birds".

Now having grown up just outside the NJ entrance to the Holland Tunnel, my knowledge of birds beyond pigeons and sparrows is largely dependent on greeting cards, cartoons and the Central Park Zoo. I have no idea what constitutes "land birds" and the only bird chart designer I know is Crosswings or do Terance Nolans birds fall into this catagory?

I have promised to check for her and would appreciate any suggestions this group could provide. Don't be afraid to suggest out of print books, at least I could mention it and send her to a search agent.

TIA Candy

Hmmm, I have been an avid bird watcher and a member of the Audubon society for many years, and I have no idea what she means by "land birds". Perhaps she could provide you with the name of a species or two, so we would know what she's talking about.

Crossed Wing does mostly "land birds". I can only think of a few water/seabirds (duck, egret, heron, flamingo) that they've done. They do do mostly songbirds, though.

Hmmm. A thought! She could mean ground (or game) birds, like turkeys and pheasants and grouse.

StitchWorld (I think it was) had a couple of Pheasant charts. So did TrueColors, iirc. Leisure Arts did a few game bird charts, as did Pegasus Originals. I think JCS may have had a pheasant in a "stitching for men" issure a couple of years ago.

My suspision is that she is looing for seabirds: albatross, pelican, gull, puffin, etc. I don't remember any seabirds from Terence Nolan.

"CANDY CORRIGAN" had some very interesting things to say about Help identifying chartt/designer:

I don't have an answer for you, but you reminded me of a quest of my own, for a ringneck dove chart.

In a way this harks back to my original work trying to do my own designs from pictures I took myself; all of which were unsuccessful. I love things to do with nature - flowers, birds, fungi, insects, etc. etc. I noticed that there were few, if any, counted cross stitch patterns for Canadian examples of these things. I suspect one of the problems is that there are millions of varieties of these things, and designers need to sell lots of their patterns if they are to stay in business. Trying to find the right ones to choose must be a very difficult task. So if she is looking for a specific category of bird, if not many other people are interested, patterns may just not have been produced. HTH.

Perhaps she means something like ostriches or emus? Maybe even parrots or parakeets?
