Tamara - I've lived in Chula now for ... four months and have yet to find an LNS. Once I got settled, I went to the one in Clairmont ... on her next-to-last day in business. I moved from Redmond, WA, where I was 30 minutes or less from two great LNSes. Feeling decidedly bereft.

Weather in March is great! As long as it's not raining! There are about three shops in SA. Thread Peddlers Cottage on West Ave. and then around the corner is Cross Stitch Plus. (smaller shop, better people). Then there is the Yarn Barn in the old district (McCullough I think). It has needlepoint. knitting and some cross stitch. You have to go there just to see some of the really old books and chart and canvas they have. We are about 60 miles west of that part of town so I don't get there much. I hope you have a great trip! You have some beautiful completed work on your website! Thanks for sharing a picture of Sunshine and Flowers! I tried to go back and have a closer look at some of your finished pieces but the site is now down for upgrading. :( I've book marked it to revisit later.

It is very surprising. Have you ever been to the shop(s) in LaJolla? I'm wondering if it's worth the drive. I have heard about a shop in Escondido; I guess it's about the same distance, but again don't know if it's worth the drive.

I have been to both shops in La Jolla .( cost me over 500 USD LOL! ) They have a lot of needlepoint and canvas but there is an excellent fibre ( threads ) selection at Needle Nook I think it was called. both shops,just about opposite each other, said they would post things . I got a blackwork book at needle nook. I seem to recall that perhaps the shop across from it had more fabric. I seem to recall that needle nook has a web site. I know they have classes etc. Parking is a bit difficult. A couple of little cafe's in the same couple of blocks. Ruby

Back when I was working in La Jolla there was a heckuva yarn shop just down the block from my office; but definitely a case of "if you have to ask, you can't afford it". However, they did offer a nice program whereby if you agreed to custom-knit for another customer, you got paid, plus a discount on your next yarn purchase.

I did hear good things about the Escondido shop ... when we go up to Poway to have lunch with my aunt, we can go the short extra distance to Escondido. Tamara, you're welcome to join us for this S.E.X.cursion. :) My Second Mother likes to meet my friends.

Yep. That's the problem with downtown La Jolla. They don't want us riff-raff coming in. Much better to have the chauffeur drop you off.

However, there's a nice scenic bus route to La Jolla, and if time is no concern to McH, she could have herself a lovely day of sightseeing without the parking hassles.

Thanks for sharing the close-up photo (you do beautiful work!) The online pictures I've seen were too far off for such detail, and it didn't pop my cork before, but it does now!

The website is back up and I was able to take a second look at your piece, Jesus in Gethsemane. You did a beautiful job, both in the stitching and the framing! That you made the pattern yourself from a photo must make it even more special to you!

Thanks Mavia. It took over a year to stitch that one, but it took longer than that to clean up the chart before stitching. The photo is of a stained glass window in a 150 year old church near here. There are several more windows that I would like to attemp, however, after all that, they will have to wait for more patience to tackle them. Julie in Hondo

I've never tried it but from what you and others have said, there is a lot more work to making a workable pattern from a picture than just running it through the software! It makes us appreciate the work of designers more! Stain glass windows are so beautiful. Please let us know if you dredge up the patience to attempt the process again! :)

Depends why you're making the pattern. For my own purposes, I have run things through PatternMaker and made corrections on the fly, e.g., the odd burgundy stitch in the middle of an area of solid Christmas red that clearly needs to be corrected to match the surrounding stitches.

But if you were making it to sell, you'd probably want to take the time to clean up all the weirdnesses.
