OK, with the recent knitting posts, I hope this isn't untimely? Mind, I don't knit too often, but I find it increasingly attractive :) Just what I need, more needlework UFOs (VBG!).
Anywhoo, I happened to visit my local Goodwill shop on a whim not knowing what I wanted to find/buy. I found a wonderful khacki (sp?) "WinterSilk" 100% SILK (yes, silk!) sweater, size small -- dang it -- too small for me to wear! But, wearing it was not my intention in the first place. I pulled the seams apart as best I could, and then unraveled the sweater pieces into yarn balls, and I will someday stitch (knit or crochet) something else with it! I've kept one raglan sleeve intact to measure the gauge; I'll unravel later on it if needs be.
Oh, and the best thing is, I only paid US$2.50 for the entire sweater :) It's a 4-ply, non-twisted type of yarn. And, I bet I got a good
20-30+ ounces out of it, too :) Not bad for a total of US$2.50, I think. And for $2.50, I couldn't pass it by!

P.S. I someday hope to find 100% cashmere sweaters with which to do the very same thing! I'm not in any hurry, though.
P.P.S. IIRC, someone recently posted about finding "stash" on an "Goodwill" auction webpage . Seems very interesting, not that I frequent auction sites like ebay and the like.
