OFF TOPIC - storing dolls

These are sentimental value only, but there is DD's first doll baby and a ladybug doll (aka Ann Geddes) and one or two others.

DD is sorting her collection of dolls and stuffed animals and a few have lots of sentimental value. The rest will go to the local thrift store for further loving.

It's been my personal experience that dolls should be kept until the individual is well into middle age and can finally make an informed decision.

Oh that is the case for all the stuffies (as she calls them). The dolls I want to keep are sentimental to ME! A ladybug, a butterfly and bumble bee from Ann Geddes and her first doll baby. The Only Heart Club dolls she's keeping - Barbie goes as Barbie doesn't have fun...

Some years ago I bought each of my kids a Lane Cedar chest to reside in the attic and hold their childhood memories. This accomplished two things: 1.) Provided safe storage, 2.) Limited ME to cull a lot of stuff and only keep the most precious. Eventually each kid will get their chest with the most favoritest stuffed lovies, possibly a special outfit or t-shirt or baseball jersey/hat, a treasured book, etc.

My oldest is now 30, with a house of his own, and no interest yet in revisiting his childhood, so I guess he's not yet middle-aged.

Nah. 30's way too young. What a wonderful way to preserve memories. Sometimes a person has to go through a lot of "life" before these things matter. And I'm sure, for some, they will never matter at all.
