2005 is coming- What's your idea for a 1st LO?

What would be the best LO for you to do to start 2005 on the right foot? There are a number of ideas floating out there about special layouts, like "The Year in Review" or "My Goals for 2005" or even "Our 2004 Holiday Season". I was wondering if there is a special layout that you do every year to start the year off "OR" if there is a special LO that you would like to start 2005 with. For my part I like the idea of scraping my goals because I know that it pays to write them down and if I share the LO with you guys, then I am more likely to do my best.

Good questions M-C. I have been toying with the idea of doing some kind of month by month recap of 2004. I have seen several different ideas in magazines, and just haven't worked out the details yet. I'm thinking of one page per month with the highlights of what we did that month.

I'm not sure that I would have enough interesting things to put on the calendar. On the other hand, we scrapbookers have a tendancy to create opportunities. Maybe having a calendar to scrap would make be find interesting things to do! Now isn't that a weird way to make yourself come out of your shell. LOL!

Good question. For me, it would probably be "My Goals for 2005". I always seem to set goals in my mind, but they may or may not go farther than that. (It's all those cobwebs up there that cause all the problems. LOL) Sometimes I meet those goals, but not very often. Sometimes I just don't set realistic goals, though. So maybe if I put them down on paper, it will help me set realistic goals and also help me try to meet those goals.

I think the month-by-month is a great idea. I did something similar to that for my DD for her first year. I think I got blank calendar pages from CM and did pictures, notes and such for each month right on the calendar. My mind is already working on this one....... Sandy in Southern Indiana

Great Question Carol. I am sure that you are not the only one who wants to know so I wrote the instructions in step form.

Just so you know, under the name PURPL RAGS you started posting on Jun 17th

2002. Here is how I found it:

  1. go to Google Groups advanced search page (note that right now they are using their beta version so the address below may change:
    formatting link
    2. Select 100 messages (per page - it shows 10 in the drop down box)

  1. Select Sort by Date (it shows Sort by relevance in the drop down box.

  1. Int he box next to Return only messages form the group type in rec.crafts.scrapbooks.

  2. In the box next to Return only messages where the autor is type PURPL RAGS.

  1. Click on the Google Search button.

  2. Find the last page (the one with the highest page number and look up the last message on the page. It contains the date of the first message you posted as PURPL RAGS.

  1. Note if had a different name when you first posted, you will need to use that name.

BTW running around this week delivering presents sounds way better than running around buying presents! Good for you! I hope that you have a safe trip to Virginia and that your now Florida blood doesn't find you huddled too close to the chimney when Santa Claus comes down! Hugs and if we don't see you for a bit, have a great trip and a very happy holiday season!

HMMM.... I don't know. I am pretty behind on my scrapping... doing book for xmas gifts will do that to a girl! I will just be happy to get back to my own things.

Talking about calendars....I've been a bit sneaky the past few months. I'm planning an Almanac for my sister as a "late" X'mas gift. I've saved the pics she sent me by email throught the year (b'days, gatherings etc) and plan to make her an Almanac for 2005. I could not believe my luck last week. I was wondering what pic to use for December. Her little niece came second in a baby contest and the Dad carried her onto stage in a X'mas suit. The baby-girl was dressed as a little angel! It will work just perfectly!

That sounds geat, Judy! I always enjoy making albums for other people. Usually my first album for the New Year is about Christmas..since that is usually the last pictures I took in that year. I enjoy making Christmas LO,too.

I like the "My Goals for 2005". Then at the end of the year it might be fun to do another LO showing the completed goals, or at least the attempts at the goals.

I was thinking of just a few highlights for each month. Although we do manage to do lots of interesting things (hubby likes to be on the go). Scrapping everyday life seems to be the new trend in all the magazines.

I think there is something to be said for scrapping a little of everyday life. I think it would be nice to have had an album with journaling of my grandparents life. They did some surprising things as did their siblings and parents. But I only remember a little of it from stories my grandmother told me when I was very little,

I'm thinking the first LO should be the before and after pictures of the ceiling replacements in my house. I feel like I need to scrap it to put it past me.

I agree. We went through my grandmother's pictures last Christmas and found out that she was in the drama club and played several sports. Things she never told us.
