OT: Americans are just not doing their part

It has come to my attention that the Swiss eat about 21 lbs (9.5 kg) of chocolate per person per year but that Americans only eat 11 lbs (5 kg). We have to do more to try to eliminate this embarrassing discrepency. I'm doing my part but are you doing yours?

Of course I'm doing my part.

(We are counting hot cocoa, choc chip mint ice cream, and choc Instant Breakfast toward the total, right?)

21 lb a year is just 6 1/2 ounces a week. Who among us cannot eat a Hershey bar a day?

The last few days, with our unusual sub-freezing temperatures, I've certainly gone through enough cocoa to hold up my end.

Ahhh... but the Swiss have such better chocolate than I can get (easily or affordably) here in the US. If I could get even Toblerones for less than $7/lb, I'd increase my consumption! As is, I inevitably end up bringing back a couple of cases of Cadbury bars from when we go home to Canada. Yumm... I think I might just have to go dig one out now! :) Heather in NY

When chomping through your chocolate & ice cream be sure to take some exercise to burn off those excess calories. See ! Mind you, I should be at least two feet taller according to my age & weight.

Eleven pounds a year? Less than 3 1/2 ounces a week? Some of just aren't trying. I'm willing to double my intake and whup those Swiss.

No dues. But you must be willing to always eat chocolate as a reward for stitching. Hot cocoa counts as well, and having chocolate and drinking hot cocoa at the same time counts double.

Oh, dear, I'm in violation already. I ate chocolate this morning BEFORE stitching. (My best friend in Hawaii just sent me a box of Chocolate Covered Macadamia Nuts with Rice Crisp.)

I figured Rice Krispies, breakfast food. Was I wrong? Must I eat more chocolate as penance?

NO, that is a motivational use of chocolate! However, it might be a good thing for the soul to do a little penance!

Because I love chocolate but if I eat chocolate it triggers off my asthma

Will do. More of the Rice Krispies, or should I dip into the Christmas truffles?

At least that plan would work very nicely in my house.

Well now that you've had the reward, it means you must stitch so that earning rewars and rewards are balanced. You have to keep track of this. For example, if you get rewarded by 1 oz. of chocolate for every n minutes of stitching, then you have to figure how many oz.'s you had and therefore you have to stitch for that many minutes. The stiching in this case is the penance.

Don`t you find that Hershey`s chocolate is far too sweet?

Depends what you`re used to, I suppose, but I find it sickly.

Of course you could do it the other way round - do a lot of exercise then FILL UP with chocolate to get the balance right!

I grabbed several bars of the Special Dark with Almonds yesterday. They were gone quickly!

I know there's 'better' chocolate but it's what I grew up eating.

Chocolate is chocolate except when it's white.
