OT: Exciting news!

But having been married to a Gemini, I would rather raise a moody crab and know where I stand rather than a two faced Gemini who puts on one face to the world and another to the family.

As it is, I have an Aires and a Capricorn. . .

That reminds me....I made a np mobile for a friends baby (he's now in his late 20s). I bet I still have the pattern!

LOLOLOL!!! Trish, you're incorrigible!

I actually do have a birth announcement pattern with cute little bunnies & mice on it that I'll be asking if DIL likes. If not, oh well. It will get made for someone eventually.

Thanks!

June 9 is the target date at the moment.

There certainly is a plethora of designs to choose from! Not sure what will eventually get done.

Not sure, yet. I have a number of patterns to choose from, but usually like ones that look the same on both sides...that way you don't have to worry about which is the "right" side! :) One thing I do know is it will be square. I always hated the rectangular blankets...you could never get them wrapped in them very well!

Woo hoo - how great for you, and the expectant parents. Congrats in advance

- I can only imagine the stitching marathon about to start!

I might just contribute some "late" finished baby sweaters....too late for their intended, but....you never know - you might like them.

What was the reason for the no-wool edict? It was a bit rude - no?

I'd say plan a sampler, but not knowing date and name can make it tough. Even color selection.

How about:

I don't think you can go wrong with a baby blanket in offwhite.

Or something multi-colored with pink and blue in it? I saw a gorgeous quilt once - the girl embroidered various kid friendly figures, then framed and joined them in a quilt. It had to take her a year and I wondered at the time if the mother would have any idea of the hours spent. I hope the kid wasn't allowed to drag it to her sandbox.

I slept last night under the handmade quilt my gran made me eons ago - it was her last big project and it's a treasure. It just covers the top of a kingsize bed, so you could think along these lines too. My mother stored it away and I claimed it when I was 38. Wasn't allowed to use it as a kid, being to big and 'fragile'.

She wanted everything for the baby to be machine washable and dryable - no handwashing as she knows herself and knew she probably wouldn't get around to it. I was happy to comply, I would rather make something which will be used and appreciated than not.

I just made a blanket for my baby out of Bernat Satin. It's 100% acrylic and is so soft!! Totally unlike crappy Red Heart. When I'm browsing the yarn section at JoAnn's or Michaels, I can't help but stop and squeeze the Charmin, so to speak. It was easy to work with and has a nice slight luster to it. I've bought a ton of it in another color to make an afghan for a friend of mine I like it so much. Plus, it's not designer expensive (about $2.99 per skein regular price).

I also made a blanket for her out of Bernat Cotton Tots. It's 100% cotton, machine wash, flat to dry, but I always put it in the dryer and it turns out just fine. I like it for winter because it's a bit heavier and warmer. Bummer is that now that she's 1, the blanket isn't quite big enough to be as useful. I might just have to start on blanket #4 for her...
