OT: GeoBear Status?

Hi Guys, I received another e-mail from Lena in Sweden. She said she mailed GB to Dawne (in Saskatchewan, Canada) the day the Icelandic volcano erupted. She said that the package likely made it through the postal system in Sweden within a day or two but by the time it was ready to be sent back across the pond, air traffic in north western Europe was shut down. IIRC, she said that flights were back up and running middle of last week so he should be showing up on Dawne's door step any day now. Dawne will send him to Sheena (in Nova Scotia) and then he will likely have to Betsy (my DSis in TX) and then back to Raechel. Even if Dawne receives him today and then she & Sheena only keep him for a day, it will still take all of this week to get through the postal system, etc. He is due back to Raechel's teacher by 10 May, I think. That means there would only be a week for the package to go from Sheena to Betsy and then on to Lizard Land. I am going to phone Betsy and see if she still wants to be the last host. She doesn't have a digital camera nor does she have a printer so it might be to difficult for her to get photos of GB taken, etc. If that's the case, then GB can go to Joan (in ND asnd the next person on the list) and she can send him back to Lizard Land. I will let you know what Betsy (in TX) says. So DAWNE, please let up know ASAP when GeoBear arrives, OK? Also, I need to ask Roberta (in Germany) and Lena (in Sweden) to send me any photos of GB so that I can add them to his Webshots album.

I would much rather have you and Marley host GB. Even though I don't think of Canada as a foreign country, it is and that's the "fun" part to the whole project, IMNSHO. If Betsy (in TX) doesn't think she can manage photos, etc. in time, then you could send GB on to Cheryl since she's closer to you. If Cheryl is really busy and can't manage a quick "turn around" then I'll ask for a volunteer to host him quickly. If no one has the time then you can send him on to Lizard Land yourself. I really want him to have been to as many "foreign" destinations as possible so that the kids can see the photos of GeoBear in different countries -- or parts thereof :-). Besides, Marley has had her essay prepared for quite some time now and there is NO WAY I am going to deny her the chance to put everything in the GeoBear Journal herself!!!!! If you want to take the time and *IF* Marley wants, she can take him to school for the day. I would much rather go that route even if it means he doesn't visit any of the hosts here in the States. Raechel phones and tells me about her classmates reactions whenever she tells them that GB has visited other school kids in different countries. So, if you and Marley need to keep him longer and you send him back to Lizard Land, I am sure the other hosts will not be upset :-). CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Tia Mary -

When a friend visited me last week, she brought a whole box of the Brit stitch magazines - one to two years' worth - and one of them is doing a series of bear ornaments set in different countries (one per issue). Cute and quick. If you're interested in doing some to commemorate the whole GeoBear experience, I'll look up which mag it was and which countries were represented. I remember Russia, Germany, and France off the top of my head.

(unlike the Vermillion bears, which are certainly cute but NOT quick! I learned that the hard way. *vbg* BUT - come to think of it - they may have it in machine embroidery, if you have one of those fancy-shmancy sewing machines!)

HMMMM -- that sounds like a good ideas! I do a small ccx piece for her Christmas tree skirt so the German Bear might be just the ticket. Of course, GB has been Down Under to Oz and New Zealand and then to South Africa, Israel, Spain, Great Britain, Sweden and soon Canada so any of those bears would be good too! If you can lay hands on something quickly, that's good but if it's going to be a P.I.T.A. then don't bother. Thanks for the idea -- a GREAT ONE indeed :-). CiaoMeow >^;;^<

It is late night here now, and no Geobear yet. I am off work tomorrow, so it would be great if he landed here then. Will let you know when he does.
