OT: HELP with this *#$(*&*^($# new 'puter

Hi Guys, OK -- I'm not having too much trouble with the new 'puter but poor DH is!!! For some reason, HE can't get online! We have DSL and our operating system is VISTA. I am online with no problem but HE keeps getting an error message when he tries to access Internet Explorer and tells him he is not online and won't connect him! Now why in the world would I be logged on but HE isn't when we are using the same computer?!?!?!? He just said to tell you that we each have our own desktop and mine is working but his is not. He does a VERY good job of understanding all this computer stuff even though he's not a true computer "geek" -- just a normal old enginerd. He says he has tried everything he can think of so I told him I would post here because I know we have quite a few computer "geeks" -- and I use that term in the nicest possible way! So -- does anyone have any ideas what is wrong with us or our system or whatever??? Obviously, ANT help will be greatly appreciated! Post here or e-mail -- either works for MOI. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Vista and other versions of Windows set permissions based on whose password was used when the system was turned on. It sounds like you need to switch users for his stuff to work. Email me frugalfingers at comcast dot net if you want more info.

Well, he found the problem. The "instructions" (and I use the term laughingly) said that if you were having trouble getting online, you should click on TOOLS on the task bar and then look for something to do with "working off line". Nothing even remotely related to "working off line" in the TOOLS area. Poor DH sat up here for hours and finally came running downstairs yelling "I found it, I found it!!!" Seems that the "working off line" thing was under FILE on the **opposite end** of the task bar. He switched from "working off line" to "working on line" and has been a happy camper for the rest of the evening! Now I just have to get used to the new keyboard and I'll be a happy camper!!
