OT-I HATE APPLIANCES

Dec 20, 2006 79 Replies

My washing machine just dropped dead. It's only 11 years old and never got to see it's teen years.

If anyone cares to join me in a very loud, very meaningful "OH S**T" please feel free to do so.

I have zero sympathy with it that it never managed to see its teen years, but lots of sympathy with you and send you good thoughts. I hate these unpredictable expenses at this time of year.

I picked up a replacement contact lens today, bought them new last Thursday and somehow how lost one on Sunday. Many less dollars I know, but aggravating too. There should be a law...

There is one--It's called Murphy's Law. If anything can go wrong, it will.

It proves to be true again and again.

Yeah but I meant a law against washing machines croaking lol

Quite so - and I remember this cheerful old adage from my RAF days: "as one door closes another one slams in your face"

It didn't even have the decency to croak out loud so I could talk nasty to it. Just died a quiet, graceful death.

Thanks for understanding. That quote is perfect for the way I feel.

LOL!!! I`m with you there, Lucille! We just had to buy a set of tires for the car. Why is it ALWAYS at Christmas?

Pat

Murphy's Law? Oh wow can I identify with that!! The other day I heard water running, checked everything from top to bottom in the house - nothing. Went to the kitchen and the sound seemed to be coming from outside, ran outside, the thingie where the outdoor hose connects was gushing, and I mean gushing, water out - tried to turn the knob to off, it wouldn't budge. Called handy neighbour who rushed over, as he's arriving the garbage guys are whizzing right by my nicely arranged bags, so I run out and put them practically in the middle of street so they HAVE to see them on their way back. Neighbour can't fix problem, called plumber - meanwhile no water in the house - that's toilets, taps. (we're on a well) Plumber arrives, replaces seized outdoor knob, charges me $105 (he was there 15"). Oh goody, water is back on. The cat is barfing in the dining room, then runs barfing out to the hallway

- oh well, at least I have water to clean up the mess. Where's hubby? The other side of the country, of course. Grooooooan

LOL - I know - we put $1500 into my Jimmy to fix the differential and some transmission seal that they had screwed up the first time. Then we had 15" of snow. Used the 4WD (logical, right?). Well, now there's a new, ominous leak under the transmission - intermittently. Mechanic says the transmission may have to be replaced ($3500) - or at the very least, don't use the 4WD, it makes the fluid boil over, which in turn leads to transmission burnout. So I now have a 4WD with useless 4WD. Sigh.

We decided to buy a new car instead (the Jimmy is a 97). Got a Subaru Forester - AWD - in a color that is really appropriate if you know me well - we call it Diet Pepsi Blue :)

That's better than those vulgar machines that croak and let loose all that water all over the floor. So declasse I always think lol

Huggies me dear {{{{{{Sharon}}}}}}}

With pleasure. 3 weeks after my new dishwasher went out of warranty, it ceased to function entirely. Water runs into the machine, but doesn't get up onto the dishes. They're not even getting damp. The repairman comes tomorrow.

It's a Kenmore, and a friend who was a long-time employee of Sears will be here to make sure they honor their Satisfaction Guaranteed policy, the rules of which he knows inside-out.

OH CR*P - mine did that last year!

Cheryl

Cats have an inate sense of timing do they not? If they are going to do anything really gross they will invariably wait until guests are just walking in the door or you are just on your way to bed after a lovely evening. And they always look you straight in the eye as they are doing whatever is they have decided to do so that you are quite certain that whatever it is that they are doing, it is most definitely NOT an accident.

I am so sorry. But, the silver lining - the new in the last few years washers are much more energy efficient, and kinder to your clothing.

ellice

And never forget the corollary - "at the worst possible moment"

ellice

That sounds like one of those days you just want to go to bed and pretend it's not happening. So sorry - hope all the mess is long since gone.

ellice

Your problem sounds worse than mine. All I need to fix mine is a charge to my credit card when I go tomorrow to buy a new washer.

At least I didn't have to clean anything, or wipe up anything liquid, or from anyone's GI tract. Puff is not the least bit interested in my problem. I guess if it's not making a mess, he figures he won't be blamed.

Lucille

Oh yes - the mess is cleaned up - or should I say the messes? Husband is home and had a good laugh at me describing that wonderful day last week that I had. I better get a good Christmas present, cuz it was NOT funny. :-)
