Actually, I'd add Patrick Stewart to the list - I've seen him in a Shakespearean role, several odd SciFi things (not Star Trek) and in some BBC productions.

I saw a film of Hamlet with Patrick Stewart as the new king and Derek Jacobi as Hamlet and it was incredible - not sure it wasn't as good as Olivier's.

And Anthony Hopkins never gives a bad performance, even if I don't always like the subject matter.

But who will replace them?

My point was that you don't know what kind of good works other people do or don't do. You work with inmates, someone else works with children, someone else doesn't have a lot of time but writes large checks to charity when she can, someone else works in a soup kitchen or drives for meals on wheels several times a month... Who's to judge?

Actually, I was borderline aware of politics when Nixon was president. I was in my teens. However, to have the president of Venezuela say that countries should band together to upraise against the US, it's a tad bit more alarming.

I know this isn't a popular way to think, but I have totally changed my position that the US is the best country in the world. Clearly it is no longer able to uphold that position.

While we may have more money than most, we are a violent, fat, ignorant, wholly dumbed down society compared to Europeans, Canadians, and Australians.

I have a really hard time saying that about the country of my birth, but it's starting to look more and more fascist as each day goes by.

I was questioned on when the last time I held an AIDS baby in Africa. Personally, I would never go to Africa. But that's another story. We do what we can. I hardly call myself judgmental. I work with death row inmates. I could not do that if I were judgmental. As I said, people are people all trying to find their way. We all deserve some privacy. S*it, I don't even much like when someone knocks on my door because it's always so my poor husband can come fix their computer woes...or for us to rescue a snake.

There is nothing wrong with acknowledging volunteer work as part of a persons character. I'm not talking about boasting, and I may have boasted, or people may have insinuated I've boasted (their perception). The very person on this newsgroup who said she does all this volunteer work, but never tells anyone is fooling nobody. It was a few weeks ago she boasted about volunteering on some "day." Maybe it was Earth Day or some such. Good for her!

Don't s*it on my work because it doesn't fit the service mold.

I think Sean Penn and Phillip are outstanding actors, both Oscar winners, but most of all they don't take any old work and are very particular with what they choose.

Do you guys have our films released over there when they are released here? I rarely see films from the UK and I wish they'd show them more. Especially the period pieces.

So you maintain that Angelina Jolie lives in Africa? or do you mean she travels to Africa regularly? I was sure I read they flew there within the last few months. Also, why does the article I read state they will be staying in the 'resort' in Namibia for awhile longer, then flying to France for a bit, then it's back to their home in Malibu. Guess the good ol' U.S. of A. isn't so bad :)

NOT NOT NOT! Really, what was it? The plot? IMO, it wasn't enough to carry me through the film and I was trapped on a jet and had no choice. Well, I could have looked away and removed the headphones, but planes are so boring.

Well, those are s***ty circumstances under which to see a movie, you have to admit. I saw Family Stone that way, though, and quite enjoyed it.

Anyway, the plot of Mr and Mrs Smith was that a couple falls in love under dangerous circumstances but fails to form a real relationship with each other because they lie to each other. Then they're hired to kill each other (which is what they each do in the first place) and they rekindle their relationship in the heat of competing with each other. It's not much of a plot, true, but it's at least as much as James Bond or Mission Impossible or some of that genre.

But then, I knew what kind of film I was renting when I rented it and didn't have it forced on me.
