OT - internet call waiting?

I've just gotten Caller ID and Call Waiting and would like to be able to get phone calls while online. I don't need to actually hold the internet connection while talking - just know who is calling so I'll know if I want to answer or not.

Any suggestions? I've tried "Catch A Call" from Wal-Mart (two boxes) and neither one worked with the caller ID box I have (though they said it was caller ID compatible) I tried downloading Phonetray but it didn't work with my current modem. I bought one that has Caller ID and Modem on Hold capability. I didn't work with it either. Neither did it work with my Dad's modem, even though it showed that it should.

Any other possibilities?

I used to use one called Callwave that worked well. That was a year ago because I switched to cable but a friend of mine is still using it and seems satisfied with it.

Kim I know almost nothing about this other than the fact that my sister uses it but have you looked into Call Wave? I know that it allows callers to leave a message if you don't want to answer the call . I know that she downloaded the program and has been very happy with it so far. It has options with monthly fees but I think the basic service is either free or very cheap. Beverly B

Hi Beverly, That's what I'm looking for - something that is a one time purchase or free :) But even though I saw a review online that claimed Callwave is free if you want to put up with some ads, I couldn't find a freebie option on the site. I'm thinking of going back to that "catch a call" just because it's a one time purchase. No caller ID, but at least I would know when someone is calling me. Kim
