OT: Mamma Mia

Someone at the local theatre has some brains -- they scheduled a guy flick to start 5 minutes after Mamma Mia all day long. So, we went to the movies this morning, and he did NOT have to suffer through the chick flick. Everyone's happy.

I'm not going to do a spoiler, but STAY FOR THE FULL CREDITS. Someone a couple rows in front of me left early, and I had just heard the door open when the whole theatre burst out laughing. I'm sure they're now regretting that they didn't stay to find out what was so funny.

I'm thinking of taking DD and her girlfriend to see Mama Mia; it looks cute.

I saw the Broadway show, and it was quite cute. Looks like the movie isn't too far off from the musical.

Smart move!

I really wasn't interested in seeing the B'way show, but for some reason the previews on the big screen have really captivated me, and now I'm looking forward to seeing it. Especially since I learned it'll play at the big screen 900-seat theater. It really is a different experience than the little mall "box" theater.

I saw Batman yesterday and liked it far better than I expected to. Not something I'd planned to do; a spur-of-the-moment decision when DD and her SO stopped by on their way, so I went along. It was long and somewhat dark, but engrossing.

I`m looking forward to that - never mind that Pierce Brosnan can`t sing for nuts - it will be fun just seeing those unlikely stars letting their hair down. Meryl Streep`s a wonder leaping about like a mad thing at her age. We`ve only seen bits of it and the story of how it was made, and it really looks fun from beginning to end.

Gene Shalit this morning gave the most accurate review I could imagine: If you like ABBA, go; if you hate their music, No No No!

And that's pretty much the way I see it. I'm not the hugest ABBA fan in the world -- some of the songs I'd never heard before -- but I like the ones I know.

OTOH, it makes perfect sense to *me* at least that if you don't like ABBA to begin with, you are not going to like the movie any better.
