OT = snow in the north east!

Keep going me dear, I hear this is to be the winter of all winters, we will see how much you like winter by April. Remember the awful winter sometime in the 80s ? Apparently this one will beat that.

Sounds to me like you and Lucille need to change residences!

You mean that one that made me move to California and swear never to return to the east?

Could well be. We lived in downtown Halifax then and the snow was ploughed so high that intersections were incredibly dangerous. They started sending back hoes around the streets, accompanied by trucks, then when the truck was loaded with snow, it would take it down to the harbour and dump it in the water.

When I backed out of my driveway, I just had to inch out and hope anyone coming stopped, it was unnerving. We were down to one lane going both ways on our street which was normally a wide street. I had a snow blower but it wasn't much fun as I had a neighbour either side who couldn't do their paths and driveways and felt compelled to help out and do theirs as well. Each snow fall I had about four hours work to do that day, worse as it became harder to find somewhere to blow it.

And now I live in a condo happily ever after and it is not my problem! Poor MissLovesTheSnow in NB is in for a shock if we have another one like that !

Right now, we are having another snow fall and we already have more than we got last year. Thank heavens for the plow guy.

I remember that winter 85? 86?- work wasn't cancelled (but it never was). But I did get a charge number for snow time... That never happened.

Oh great I was just discussing playing bridge tomorrow night and my partner remarked snow is reported and we decided wait and see. So looks like it will arrive.

Mutter, mutter, hope it all falls in the vicinity of Moncton, NB, hear tell someone there loooovvveesss winter and snow and she can have my share - free !

I'm not sure but I think that was the winter we were snowed in for 3 days and couldn't possibly navigate the unplowed streets. I lived in a forgotten area of Brooklyn and they forgot about us until we started screaming and kicking and bombarding the Mayor's office.

Finally, in the late afternoon of the third day we saw a snowplow coming down the street. Whooping and hollering we ran to the window just in time to see it back exactly into the center of the front end of my car, effectively crunching the engine.

Needless to say we were not a happy couple, and I learned then that you really can't fight city hall. They never paid for the damages.

We will hear her moaning if it gets like that. The long range forecast is suggesting it will be hard this winter, worse than that winter and I ask myself where is global warming ? Who has it ?

Not us. We had a relatively cool summer, and looks like a relatively cool winter, too. Frankly, I'd rather have global warming -- I have excellent insulation in the ceiling to protect against sun/heat, but none at all in the walls to keep the place warm in winter.

Snow - isn't that the white stuff you sometimes see whenever it rains when it's really cold? Bruce (aka smug git from Stronsay)

Natter Natter ... and Who was sending me pictures - beautiful ones - of the big chunks of ice coming almost up to her deck when she lived in a house - she didn't complain then .. she thought it was all quite beautiful herself ... now she's getting old and grouchy from the window of her snazzy condo in Halifax. I must admit I was quite glad we didn't get that 50 cm of snow in the last storm tho', cuz it hasn't warmed up enough for any of the snow from the storm before the last storm to melt. It's still pretty tho' ... I just don't drive if the roads are bad.

I don't want to speak for Lucille -- she can issue her own invitation -- but you know you're welcome to spend the winter in my guest room.

Ski resort operators in New Zealand have renamed snow. They now call it "white gold".

There are a number of web sites that track world average temperaure anomalies. World temperatures have stopped rising, and are now actually falling. Forecasts are for a new Little Ice Age in the 2030's.

Nah - the local have been calling it that for years.

I will stay off the roads today and avoid all the folks rushing north to ski
