OT: Vacuum cleaner recommendations

Linens and Things is, I think, the name of the store. Bed, Bath & Beyond will honor both their own coupons, plus they'll honor those from Linens and Things -- they're not associated, it's just their business practice. I prefer doing business with BB&B because they're just nicer, and their exchange policy is so liberal.

Just so you know, Linens N Things will accept BB&B coupons as well as their own too.

However, I do agree that BB&B is a nicer store, with much better customer relations and if you need a gift sent, they will gift wrap it and mail it for you. My friend bought a couple of inexpensive beach towels and had them sent to her son and DIL. They said the package was wrapped in fancy paper, complete with a bow, like a very expensive wedding gift and they laughed when they opened the package and saw what it contained..

A long-haired cat, a moderately long-haired me, and a longer-haired DH!

And two DDs have shortest hair of us all. (well, except maybe the cat...)

I HATE having to keep spare bags around and there is also enough dust raised while switching bags that I end up doing it on the pack porch. I'm saving my money for a Dyson. My old Kirby is now 23 years old & it is NOT my mother's Kirby. Hers was so good that my sister is still using it. In our case, we live out in the country so that, unless I had vacumed up something I wanted to get back, I would probably just dump it out in the "yard" somewhere. Have to get the cars fixed first, though, so I won't be "driving" a Dyson any time soon. :-) Liz from Humbug

I bought the Hoover Fusion(U5180) last December, and am THRILLED with it!! On the downside, it's sold exclusively at Walmart (don't hate me because I shop there), but on the plus side, it is very reasonably priced at $128.88. I questioned whether it would be any good for such a low price, but it just keeps amazing me. It's an imitation of Dyson, and claims it also "never loses suction". In fact, it claims it can even outsuction Dyson! It's not just a bagless, it vacuums via cyclonic filtration. Yes, emptying can be a bit messy until you get a good system down, but there are no filters to ever replace on it. You just rinse them off every so often.

I live in a very small 550 sq.ft. apartment with two very hairy cats. This vacuum has no problems finding hair when I thought there was no more hair to be found!

This was a replacement vacuum to my 11+ year old Kenmore canister which I also loved immensely, it just wasn't doing the best job anymore. I can't complain, it served me well for many years. Several of my friends also own or have owned Kenmore canisters, and they all have equally loved them as well. Not one bad word ever spoken about them. Can't say the same for their uprights, however.

Good luck, Jinx

I have a question. I only have carpet on my stairs. Does the Dyson work well on hardwood and vinyl floors? The house was built in 1918 and I have oak downstairs and cherry upstairs. Also 2 cats and 1 dog. Huge dust-bunnies. Shannon

I took a baggie of long cat hair when I shopped - SA laughed when I tossed it on the sample rug - bought the Hoover windtunnel, altho the SA said she would buy the Dyson, were she in the market for a new vac. The Hoover was on sale, which clinched the deal.

I wanted bagless and so far have been satisfied.

Well, I did it - bought the Dyson 14 - opened a Sears account to get $15 off, plus they had 10% off all vaccums over $149, so it ended up costing under $400. And the amount of dog hair that came out of the area rug they like to sleep on (it's in the sun) was amazing! Already looks like it was worth the money!

Thanks to all for your recommendations!
