Police Dog Chart?

I heard recently that the bullet proof vests for police dogs cost a few thousand dollars each, and I'd like to try to raise funds locally to buy some of these vests for the K9s.

The idea stuck in my head is to chart police dogs, and sell them with 100% of the sales income going toward these vests. But I have NO idea how to start something like this....local craft fairs? Dog shows? And how does anybody KNOW that this is what I'm doing? If they don't know me, I could be putting 100% into my back pocket. So do I issue receipts?

Any help with this project GREATLY appreciated! :))

You might try contacting the police department to see if they have a fundraising coordinator or failing that talk to public relations. There might already be a campaign underway to raise money for the vests. Also, the last thing you want is for someone to phone the dept to ask if you are legit and be transferred to the fraud division.

Another benefit of doing this is that someone might already be set up with a charitable number (for taxes), a volunteer structure, or other distribution outlets set up that you can piggyback upon.

When you go to talk to the fundraising coordinator, or whatever, you should have the product, packaging as well as the marketing information in place, such as a list of possible distribution points such as dog shows, craft markets, pet stores, etc. You should also have a good idea of how much it costs to rent a table at these venues, as well as other costs of production. Are you going to do this yourself, or are you going to recruit volunteers? How many charts would have to be sold to buy one jacket?

Good luck Dora
