I've owned a Sony Reader for 3-4 years now ...since they first came out. I love it but I just bought an iPad and that is absolutely phenomenal for e-book reading. I know it's more expensive but it is not just an e-Reader.
If I was going to purchase just an e-reader, I probably wouldn't get the Kindle. It has some nice features but the files are in a proprietary format and have such stringent DRM embedded that you can only read it on the Kindle. I would want a reader that would handle multiple formats such as ePub preferably in a format that I can pass along to another reader when I'm finished like I would with a paper book.
