Re: OT: Peeves about websites

There is nothing more annoying than back buttons which don't work,

I hate/dislike/despise/loathe

- clicking on an internal (aka part of the site) link and getting a 'page not found' message

- clicking on an external (aka go elsewhere) link and getting a 'page not found' message

- text that spills over table or frame borders making it difficult to read

- behind the scenes scripts that only work in certain browsers

All reflect poor web design and an uncaring attitude towards visitors/customers.

F*CKING JAVA ABUSE!

Holy smokes, has that been wanting to get loose for some time now. Bad choices in web design make me stabby. Why bother putting together a supposedly 'professional' site if you insist on doing every single thing you're not supposed to do?

Ahhhhhhhhh! Becky A.

For a while, I had debug enabled, and it was amazing how many scripts stopped running (some partway, some repeatedly). Do web designers not check these things?

And then there are some pop-up ads ... bad enough that they're there at all, but they pop me right out of the internet window and back to whatever other program I was using last!

We will not even discuss the beef I have with one of my clients, who is soooooo eager to get new stuff up that it gets posted in all its misspelled glory and then I have to proofread it online and try to tell her where the problem is, rather than sending the text to me before it goes online so I can make the corrections myself.

I think what happens is some people are careless and only check their site with one browser, probably Internet Exploder, and don't allow for the fact that many people choose to use other browsers. I like firefox as my default and Opera as secondary and only if I have to, Exploder as third.

You might want to talk to your web master -- At 1280 x 768 res, text runs over the right most line in Mozilla and Sea Monkey but not in IE.

Webmaster is currently working on a new set-up entirely. The original was a "how fast can you get us up and running?" with changes planned as time permitted.
