It seems to me that solar and wind are two natural sources of power which really make sense; there is an inexhaustible supply of sun and wind.. I know it will take a while to get them up and running, but it would be something wonderful to look forward to. In a nearby county some acreage has been bought up by the authorities, and an array of solar panels will be erected. In Florida, the sun is shining most of the time.

Unlike some people, I think watching the wind turbines turning on the hilltops is rather peaceful and lovely.

Sorry to ba a wet blanket, Gill, but solar and wind will never be a good source of energy until we learn to store the output. For solar water heaters, this happens automatically, so these work. In Perth, Australia, they have a wind powered water desalination plant; terrific. At Yulari, also in Australia, they use huge banks of rechargeable batteries. But until we learn how to store electricity, or it's equivalent, on a huge scale, wind and solar are extremely expensive toys the Greenies are playing with. Jim.

Still, it's a step in developing something less destructive. Whether there is global warming or not, the cookie has to crumble. They are building wind farms out at sea, more expensive but out of the way. They are also experimenting with roller-like things placed on the ocean floor where the Fundy tides rushing in and out over them will generate power.

There is to be a large wind farm built on the Tantramar marshes, far from homes. Have to admit, the windmills fascinate me, I must have at the very least 500 or so pics of the stupid things lol

There is certainly lots of potential for wind farms here on the prairies. I also would like to see them developed, and we have lots of open space away from people. SaskPower was running an experimental project to convert waste from hog operations to power--the former president loved to lead reporters into asking him about "pig poop power".

The Solar water heaters are put on every house by LAW , for many yuears now !!! as a National Building law . In Haifa at first City hall objected saying taht in Haifa where every house looks on a house below it , it would look UGLY , but the state insisted and it is here for years !!!!

Forgot to tell that people here are very kin oncollecting plastic bottles and packaging , everywhere you have some kind of Nice Special Cages for the plastic !!!! And now with the Darught , people invent /find ways to save water ,,,, here are some , I have a bucket next to the shower , For The cold water that comes before the warm water , This i use for the Flower pots /wash the floor and to throw into the toilet. Our Toilet`s Niagras have 2 knobs ,,,When washing veggies etc , in a Bowl it is usedcfor flower /floor . Last not least we save the rain water that comes from our roof , for the trees ,, mirjam

The constant woof, woof, woof of the blades is apparantly making some people living close to them very sick.

Yars ago I worked on a vertical axis windmill and power generating system for the Nation Research Council in Newfoundland, after $250,000 they called it quits. The 30m? tall beast NEVER lit a light bulb. Yet as far as I know, another smaller one up on an ice flow in the Bering Sea is still floating around and generating power, I doubt anyone at NRC is monitoring it. Sad as loads of money and over engineering over ruled common sense. There were places that the units could have been very useful.

People can't sleep and they are getting vicious headaches. My guess is it is very low subliminal sounds or very low vibrations that are coming off of the windmill blades because I haven't heard of any pets or farm animals having problems. I think that the windmills are at least 1/2 mile away from their property.

It could also be something like out phase sound waves coming off the blades from time to time. This would be similar to having the wiring going to the left side of your stereo (read sound system) opposite to the wiring going to the right side. In this case what happens is the left side speaker *pushes* air towards you and your left ear while the right speaker *pulls* the air away from you and your right ear. You don't realize what is happening until someone asks you why you are shaking your head from side to side or after 20 minutes you have a vicious headache. When someone complains to me about migraine headaches, the first thing I tell them is to have the wiring to their stereo (read sound system) checked. In a car it can really drive you to road rage. LOL

I had a brother who had to stand on a mat or sit on a padded cushion when he was in church. The low harmonic/notes from the church organ used to make him sick to his stomach.
