I think this is due to the suspicion that lurks just below consciousness in most stitchers that the absolutely perfect chart/fabric/thread/beads etc etc will sneak into a shop someday and be bought before we even know they are there. So we have to check.

Oh, absolutely.

Back when I was the poor starving wife of a poor starving student, a GWTW kit was in one of my catalogues. I knew that in a few months he'd be out of school and in a paid internship, so rather than go a month without groceries, I marked the page and planned to buy the kit as soon as I could pay for it. In just that couple months, the kit was sold out and OOP, and I've never been able to find it since.

Dawne , you have an interesting Idea, I am not sure that this was/is always the reason . Although i am very lucky to have a shop minutes from my house, the `regular threads ` etc,, i am sure she will always have , it`s knitting wools that might be sold before i got them. Thus when i buy wool for a project i do but a ball or 2 more than planned , i can always use those but will not be happy to get stuck without enough wool to finnish a sweater or such... I think we are all the Off spring of Collectors , our foremothers collected seeds ,fruit etc,,,, we just go in their ancient footsteps !!!:>:>:>:>

I think EVERY person has a story of Something that Was sold out before that person could afford/have the time / have the place for it....A nice anecdote to be told later in life ... mirjam
