Sanity check please

Ok - I just got my arm twisted (trust me, it should be in a sling now) into helping with the "Enrichment Clusters" in January at DD's school. My title " Create a Pattern, Create a Book Mark". I'll use what the 4th and

5th graders have learned about patterns and graphing to create a chart and then show them how to cross stitch it. I did something similar in a badge blast for Junior GS's a few years back.

My plan is to use 10 count plastic canvas (no hoops required that way) and cheap floss (the bulk Janlynn stuff) and decent needles. #10 graph paper for charting. (I only get to spend about $40 and can't supplement on my own.)

So - what am I forgetting or over looking? I will use a big piece of 7 count with yarn as a demo.

Cheryl

(I wish they had been introduced to different base counting already - this is a natural for 1 and 0's patterns)

Maybe some colored pencils or highlighters? They can use one color to mark their pattern, then ano. to cross out as they go.

I was actually thinking monochrome, but that is a good thought. For the adventurous ones.

I always do that (on a working copy, of course - not the original). I keep a huge supply of coloured felt pens for that. They`re cheap enough, after all. My daughter, Jane, was given literally HUNDREDS by the owner of a company who had ceased selling them, so she keeps me supplied (which is even cheaper). You can often buy stuff like that on Ebay, too.

Mind you, when you think about it, even making a working copy can be thought of as a breach of copyright. After all you still have the original in pristine condition to use again, give away, or sell on. Not REALLY a lot different to giving the copy away really! Bother - why did I have to think of that?

Didn't she say the kids were designing the charts themselves? No copyright issues that way.

The only thing Cheryl left off her list of supplies that I can think of is scissors. I know the ones kids use at school on paper should be available, but not sure how well those do with floss.

Pat, copyright is not an issue as these kids will be designing their own patterns. (of patterns)

I was thinking about asking the kids to bring their own scissors and maybe a folder to keep their supplies in.

Or gallon size ziplock bags? Less likelihood of something falling out that way.

Knowing how folders end up in my kids' backpacks! lol

BINGO! That should hold a full sheet of the 10 count canvas, a pair of scissors. I'll use some of my felt stash for needle holders and some 7 count scraps for floss holders.!

Make sure to check with the school first to see if the kids CAN bring their own scissors. Don't want the whole class suspended for bringing dangerous weapons to school!

I'll ask. I may have to "borrow" the scissors from art or have the blunt nose ones.
