Unused Stash Survey

Since I collect patterns and pretty fibers - let me phrase it this way: if I loose my job, I wouldn't have to buy needlework or weaving supplies for at least 10 or 11 years.

I achieved SABLE status *years* ago!

That's the purpose of SABLE!

When I first went off work and had no income, I was kitting up magazine projects from stash. And, of course, all those kits I'd bought. Occasionally, I might have to buy a skein or two of some odd color where I had no leftovers, but my cash outlay was pretty minimal.

I had, and then that damn fire took most of that away from me. I rescued most of my charts (they still smell like smoke tho), about 1/2 of my WIP's, and a few pieces of linen that weren't fried.

I'm slowly restocking, ebay is a wonderful thing!

In my house, it's camping gear - just how many $500 tents do you need?!

"But cigars need to age" is his excuse to stashing, while linen doesn't! lol

I'm guessing a minimum of 3. One standard weather tent, one dining tent, one winter weather tent.

No make it 4, there would also be a "mummy" tent if you are camping alone.

Oh dear goodness, I think I reached SABLE a long time ago if you put in "stitching life expectancy" -- with everything else in my life I don't have as much time to stitch as I used to :) EG

LOL - I was thinking about what, and this resonated with me. A few years back we went to a cash & carry show for the shop. And of course, we bought some stuff for ourselves - and I have 2 huge pieces of Silk 'n Linen that from Wichelt. It had such a nice texture - one is blue, the other a rich golden brown. But, I have yet to find something to do with them. Turns out to be kind of stiff - so I'm thinking maybe either etuis or, well....

And we won't talk about the kitted up projects waiting to be started. Books I use all the time. Magazines - well, I have some that I've really not used so I just only buy issues that speak to me.

LOL - I have a gorgeous, funkily shaped (flat but curved in the top to bottom direction) wooden one, the tip of which I unfortunately caught in something and it splintered up the grain. It's taped and dorky looking. I also have a lovely carved more normal looking round one - that I do use - but it's with the NP WIP. And a BLT metal one - which is very light, and very dangerous. And I do use it - but what hangs on a ribbon from my frame

- that I use A LOT - the size humongous (18?) tapestry needle, with a ribbon through it, and my old do-lolly needle threader on the other end. All the time -we tell folks to just grab a really big needle to use. So, amongst the plethora of fancy, special laying tools - the cost me nothing needle gets the most use.

Although I don't use it very often, I think the minute I gave it up I would be looking for it. Isn't that the way most things like that go?

I know it's carried by Jo-Ann's and with their 40 or 50% off coupons, it can't be very expensive.

I don't know about other people, but they're very useful if you quilt or sew things with little seams. Handy to just have sitting nearby, rather than getting up for the big iron, especially when you have fine 1/4" or less seam allowances.

Can't say as I could imagine Caryn's kidlets worrying about competing with mom - but I can see her doing the quilting thing. Hmmmm, if she needs some quilty stuff - Caryn, LMK when I come get you for some outing. We can always add quilty stuff.

Yup, I agree - you'd miss it. It's one of those things that everytime there's a coupon, there's some other trinket I feel compelled to buy. However, there is now a multi-tip tool that includes the iron head, which someone else makes, that I've seen at G-Street, so next time I get a 30% off coupon, I'll spring for it.

There are so many that I've been wondering why they just don't lower the prices and stop sending incentives, but I guess the other way they keep their name in your face and hope you'll buy something else at the same time.
