WAAAY OT: Seville oranges.

It is that time of year again. In the days of the www, one is supposed to be able to get information on just about anything. I know our sevilles are grown in either California or Arizona, or more likely both. What I dont know is when I will be able to buy any. I talked to the local store manager yesterday, and she said if they were lucky, they got 2 days notice of when any sevilles will be available. Surely the people who grow them know by this time when they are likely to be harvested. Has anyone any idea of the names of any growers of seville oranges? Jim.

All the ones I buy come from Florida, February their big orange season is in full swing.

These guys are good, though I have never purchased Sevilles from them.

Lol, that's why their oranges are so good! I have had oranges and grapefruit from there, but not Sevilles, those I buy in the stupidmarket but later than this, in February.

When I lived at Satellite Beach, we would go to Hale Groves, and get the culls. Made great juice, and so what if they weren't pretty. I buy fruit from a local grove here in Polk County, and they ship it north for me. Tomorrow I will give them a call, and see what I can find out about Sevilles for Jim.

You might have good luck if you ask for "sour oranges". When I lived in Tampa, the Cuban people (and their descendants) cooked a number of ethnic dishes with sour oranges. I uderstand they come from the original rootstock, and the sweet ones we like to eat are from carefully bred hybrid cuttings grafted onto said rootstock.

We get them from Florida as well. Our local Costco carries FLA grapefruit, oranges, clementines, etc. Even had blood oranges during their brief season last year. When I'm home, we go to "Blood's Hammock Groves" which is quite near my family (in Boca Raton).
