Hate to tell you, dear but these are "cheapos". There were some Ginghers sold for $250plus the other day. I understand there are folk who have to collect all the Gingher line of scissors.

Personally, I couldn't believe that Jim paid $45 for a pair for me eight years ago!! They still work perfectly, though!

Did you see the new DMC box???

I have a Gingher scissors and love it, but I bought it last year at JoAnn's with a 50% coupon

Yes I saw the new DMC box and I wish I needed it. It looks fabulous, doesn't it

They sold new for about $35, but I don't think you can get the Gloriana pattern anymore, so they have collectible value to some people.

I scored a 4.5 inch pair of plain ole Ginghers for $6.20 including shipping the other day on Ebay.

Oooooooooooooh! Thank you, Madame Enabler! As soon as my Mastercharge payment clears, Santa is bringing that for my tree. (The card I use online has only a $500 limit to reduce the opportunities for fraud, and this being Christmas season, there's not much of that left till they credit the check.)

Not sure I can answer your question but I once heard that, "Captain Cook circumcised the world with a 100 foot clipper."

Yes - lovely.

And $250 would buy a lot of floss or a few tank's of gas.

Most I've spent on scissors is $20 for a pair of dressmaker's shears for my Mom (about 20 years ago) extra long left handed scissors.

Doing a search on eBay for NTSA and just looking at the scissors will give you lots of good stuff. Searching on brand names works well too, but the stuff that get seized (like the Gloriana ones) is amazing.

As Elizabeth said, that pattern is no longer available so it does make the value go up. I have a pair of Gingher's that DD got me for Mom's Day several years ago. She used a 50% coupon and they *still* cost her about $25.00! I use them when I go to classes, etc. I also have a set of VERY $$$$ scissors -- Solingen (sp?) -- that Brigitte (my stitching buddy in Germany) brought me as a Christmas gift when she was here several years ago. They are just beautiful and cutting floss or needlework fabric with them is like running a hot knife through butter. I cringe to think what she paid for them!!!!!!! Even buying them over there where they are made doesn't make the cost what I would consider "reasonable". They are worth every penny and I am unbelievably happy to have them -- I just don't let myself think about the amount of $$$ my buddy spent! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I hate to tell you all that these scissors cost AU$75 at least if you can get them.............and much to my embarrassment I have 3 pairs in different patterns - they are exquisite scissors.

Oh my goodness - I refuse to look up the exchange rate.

These scissors are a NSTA seizure (taken or turned in at the airport). So, they aren't "mint", new or unused....

Whenever you get that lovely DMC box let me know as I'm also very tempted!!

In 2000 Mr Wooly bought me the limited edition DMC floss cabinet as an anniversary gift...this box would probably look handsome on top of the floss cabinet!

On the subject of scissors...I try to buy the best tools I can afford as I found from experience, the less expensive scissors don't work as well or last very long. The scissors we've used for many years are from Solingen, Gingher, Dovo and Fiskars

The high quality scissors I bought many years ago still work perfectly compared to a several broken "cheapies" that broke in my hand! I've got several pairs of Gingher embroidery scissors from over 20 years ago I still use regularly.

The only maintenance I've done is having them sharpened at our local Joann's when the knife sharpener service was at the store, the man comes every other month...he sets up his sharpening wheels in a small area of the store...cost about $4 to $6. to sharpen the various scissors and knives I brought in.

You and I think alike on low credit card limits for net shopping...good idea!

I have something for both Master Card and Discover that creates "Virtual Account Numbers." What it does is create a low limit virtual number that has a very short lifespan. The amount charged on the regular statement as either a virtual number on my Master Card statement, or as a secure number on my Discover statement. Even if the number should be stolen by an on line company, it would only be good for a short time and a very low amount and once you log out, it's gone forever.

I think all, or at least most, credit card companies have this sort of thing. Easy to use and supposedly very secure.
