What sized needle?

I have a knitting loom kit that uses a 3 3/4 inch long blunt tipped plastic needle and I'm wondering where I can get a metal equivalent as I know I'm likely to break this plastic one. The eye needs to be large enough to easily thread knitting yarn.

I'm assuming it must be some sort of tapestry needle but I'm curious as to the size number I should be looking for.

Thanks kindly.

Cheers,

I would get an 18 tapestry needle for most sportweight and regular yarns (the numbers are a "gauge;" I can get baby weight yarn in a size 22 which is smaller and some manufacturer's offer a 20 which is in between the 18 and

22).

Two free online needle guides ("yarn" is a good word to search for once articles are opened):

Thanks very much for the advice. Sorry I missed your reply...

I got a size 13 needle and it works just perfectly. FINALLY a needle I won't break! ;->

Cheers,
