Wonderful, Whimsical Art

's a Flash site and takes a bit to download, but definitely worth the wait. If you're on a modem, I'd skip the site unless you want to take a shower and eat lunch while it's loading. I thought Anne might be interested. I wrote to the artist and mentioned she should think about designing for needlework/embroidery.

It's a really nicely done site. Interesting - if you look through the paintings, you can see the change in her style with the later versus the earlier work. I liked the newer - less angular stuff. It seems happier. The 2000 stuff seemed a bit darker, IMHO. Great find - thanks.

Will say, did make me appreciate our FIOS connection - we're fiber to the house here, and very high speed - so the loading at first honestly only took about 10-15 seconds.

She might be interested in just licensing someone to chart her stuff. Her paintings look like watercolors, and she might not want to switch into painting canvas with opaque colors, but....you never know.

Although I thought about Canvas, that wasn't my main interest. I can visualize these in surface embroidery or mixed media.

We'll see if she responds to me. Dianne

It should be no surprise that I loved the art. The two pieces of whimsy that I've almost finished are from fabric panels featuring teachers and quilters that are almost too cartoony. I seem to have become stuck in a stitching rut -- using the same stitches over and over -- because I'm covering small spaces. However, I've varied the look by using bold colors and will tart 'em up with lots and lots of beads.

I love that kind of art. I would also love to see some fabric designed by her!

Regardless - they're really nice. I could definitely see some of them as canvas work - letting you do some interesting textures, etc - which of course is probably why you see them as surface embroidery. Definitely interesting stuff.
