Stemming from td's "brags" about her DH's expensive toys, I have to admit being a little shocked when people brag about how much money they spend on things. Me? I like to spend as little as possible and enjoy my lifestyle, whatever it may be.

We're "comfortable". But we make choices that don't put us into hock up to our eyeballs, and we don't have to have the newest toys, the most expensive whatever, etc. I don't purchase for the benefit of the Jones' (heck - I don't think I know anyone named Jones!).

I don't mind spending money for quality, or for something that fits the bill. The TV for instance. We got LCD tvs for the reason that we have a not-so-big house and the less room something takes up (and the less surface to dust) the happier I am. We also enjoy watching sports and movies. I'm all for spending money on anything that makes my life easier, or even more enjoyable, but to tell people that I have a lot of expensive stuff? Huh?

How about dogs? Some cost a whole lotta money, some very little. Some that cost very little wind up costing a lot in other ways. I admit that I would spend pretty much anything if it was the *right* thing for me pet.

With all of the foreclosures going on around the nation, I find people's attitudes toward money, spending and goods, very interesting.

But we make choices that don't put us into hock up to our eyeballs. and we don't have, the newest toys, the most expensive whatever..... ____________________________ Janet, My lifestyle is much like yours. I am so excited. I will be making my last house payment in Dec. and I just paid off my truck a few months back. I am not trying to suggest either of the above is lavish. I just like having my money to spend on what I want. I don't have to have anything luxurious and believe me I don't. When my husband and I bought this house the realtor kept insisting we could afford a greater house with our incomes. We voted no, paid half down and 10 years later, I am a homeowner. We are no longer together. Some snicker at me because I feed my dogs Purina, not Gravy Train, not Kibbles and Bits etc...Purina! Lady and Buck have lived to be in their mid teens on Purina. I am in tune with my dogs. I am not the one who is running back and forth to the Vet's. I have nothing against people who need the security of checking with their Vet. Jubal's recent go round with diarrhea is cause for concern. It is resolved for now, but I know it is not normal. He is on the list to go. Nothing of mine has ever died or died sooner for lack of Vet care. I am by no means a Vet, but when you have always had dogs, you get a feel for somethings. I will never let any living animal suffer, if I have a choice. This kitten that I have been bottle feeding caused me concern. She is not going to be able to stay, but she is in my care. The Vet does not know if her problem is merely constipation or upper intestinal problems. He treated her for constipation. She is not in pain and seems fine, but that incessant meowing had me concerned. No, I was not prepared to pay

100.00s of dollars for X number of tests when it probably is constipation. It is not over yet, though and I am not saying I won't pay for her, if need be. My 14 year old cat Booger, died 3 years ago. My Vet had done all kinds of lab work to the tune of 300.00. They came back fine. My Vet guessed that it was FIP and treated her accordingly. No, I did not have an autopsy. She lived a good life and she is gone. I have spent 6-7 hundred dollars for Jack's surgeries, vaccinations, meds, in the last 1.5 years. I share what I have. It isn't much, but I will always share till the end. I am by no means frugal. I don't look at prices. I buy junk I don't need. etc. I must say I am very concerned about the economy, as never before. My daughter has acreage. We are discussing communal living, for any of the family that wants to go there, if things get really horrible. We would all have our seperate living spaces. Please indulge me this moment for a little speech. My tried and true Harley stock is dropping like a rock. Of course, people aren't going to buy a Harley, when they can't pay their mortgage, but the 3rd quarter report indicated talk of outsourcing manufacturing to China. Oh Hell NO. How about Hershey? They have gone and done it, outsourced to Mexico. I say F--- them, no more Hershey bar with almonds, etc for me. I ask any of you that are like minded to boycott Hershey. Janet, I know I took your original post and ran with it. Thanks for posting it.

I was prepared to boycott as well, but I thought the idea was put to a stop and there is no longer talk of moving the company to Mexico. I must google now to check!

Hi MauiJNP, I originally saw the report on MSNBC that Hershey was outsourcing jobs to Mexico. I do not recall the amount of people that would be effected. Sorry, if I made it sound like all of Hershey's is being outsourced. I recently received a folksy form e-mail from one of my friends, indicating someone's Uncle Joe was going to lose his job because of Hershey shutting down, then right behind that, an e-mail quoting snopes.com, indicating the e-mail was partly true. I have come to find Snopes as fairly credible. Snopes indicated approximately 3,000 people were losing there jobs as a result of them being outsourced to Mexico. I believe 1/10 of the work force. Snopes also mentioned their line in Canada is going to be closed down. I don't know how many workers that line employed. The folksy e-mail called for a boycott, just as I did/do when I posted here. The Snopes.com comment reminded readers if you boycott, be aware it is not because of the entire plant closing. I thought of you, when I received the e-mail. I have not Googled the subject, as I received my information from a report from the company, things could have changed since then. I just wanted to let you know what I had come across. IMO the outsourcing of one job, is one too many. My plan to boycott still stands, of course it could effect the remaining jobs in the USA, but then continued outsourcing could too. Please post any information you may come across.

Unfortunately, the whole outsourcing-to-overseas issue is a complex one that the majority of people in this country are not really willing to commit 100% to doing everything they can to stop it -- which would basically mean refusing to buy anything made overseas. Too many people in the US want their cheaply-priced stuff and don't care that the quality is bad.

I am in an industry that is moving to aggressively outsource the work done to overseas, and the quality of the work done overseas is bad and not likely to improve, but unfortunately people as a whole have gotten "hooked" on low prices and are not willing to pay more money for a quality product in a business environment because it hurts their personal bottom line (Aaron Feuerstein excepted, of course -- he paid the price of bankruptcy for the courage of his convictions, and for that I salute him and wish there were more like him, because if there were, he probably would not have had to pay that price.). My pay has dropped

40% in the last 3-4 years, and if I have to replace any of the work I do today my pay will probably drop another 30-40%.

HOWEDY melinda meahan,

THANK YOU for your OFF TOPIC IDIOTIC post!

Well, some folks from overseas come here to find work.

AIN'T THAT "HOWEtsourcing"?

Yeah. Unfortunately this country was built upon FREE TRADE and COMPETITION and the SPIRIT to make of it what you want.

Well, that's HOWE it USED to be, more than fifty years ago. HOWEver, the little yellow bastard slope headed slant eyed industrialists have by far EXXXCEEDED the American Spirit in all fields; business, technology, ambition and motivation.

So, the old saw "you get what you PAY for" is no longer valid, like the American dollar or more fittin, the DOG LOVERS who USED to post here

Sez you, melinda? You're a proven lyin animal murderin punk thug coward active accute chronic life long incurable MENTAL CASE accordin to your own POSTED CASE HISTORY

You can't even stay on topic. Imagine a company like Dell hiring dirtbags like yourself to talk in a Hindi accent to service ignorameHOWESES like liea and mauijnp or paul e. schoen who ain't got the attention span to even read the doGdameneD manual even IF they had the INTELLECT to be ABLE?

You'd be givin Dell customer's SEWIN tips and complainin abHOWET your PMS and offerin PREYERS to CURE their computer misery, you pathetic false Christian

CITES PLEASE, melinda?

American manufacturing has increased COSTS by caring for ignorameHOWES misfits like yourselves and your medically necessary emotional disability insurance and compensation and sick pay while the quality of WORK has greatly diminished due to your gross INCOMPETENCE and colossal GREED.

People like you and your pathetic miserable stinkin lyin animal murderin punk thug coward active accute chronic life long incurable mental case pals here are what's HURTIN the BOTTOM LINE in American industy.

You maggots CAN'T COMPETE at ANY level. This country DESERVES WHAT WE GET from LOSSES incurred by supportin *(dragging behind us) imbeciles like yourselves.

"When the Malden Mills factory burnt down on December 11, 1995, Feuerstein decided not only to use his insurance money to rebuild it, but to also pay the salaries of all the now-unemployed workers while it was being rebuilt.

Feuerstein spent millions keeping all 3,000 employees on the payroll with full benefits for 3 months. By going against common CEO business practices, especially at a time when most companies were downsizing and moving overseas, he achieved a small degree of fame.Feuerstein claimed that he couldn't have taken another course of action due to his study of the Talmud and the lessons he learnt there:

"I have a responsibility to the worker, both blue-collar and white- collar. I have an equal responsibility to the community. It would have been unconscionable to put 3,000 people on the streets and deliver a deathblow to the cities of Lawrence and Methuen. Maybe on paper our company is worthless to Wall Street, but I can tell you it's worth more."

If you cannot command the money you THINK you *deserve* it's on accHOWENTA YOU *DON'T* DESERVE IT

And DON'T BANK on an Aaron Feuerstein givin the likes of *YOU*, charity. Charity is EARNED based on NEED, not GREED and LAZYNESS.

BWEEEAAAHAHAAA~!~!~!

If you was COMPETENT you WOULDN'T NEED to "REPLACE" your own "work". WOULD YOU:

No, when I web-surf I follow ADD rabbit trails in links and lose hours at a time.

No; I was saying that my comment was an ADD rabbit trail, and then I went off in another rabbit trail. (It happens more often when I'm tired.)

One thing that tends to stop these poor misguided cretins dead in their tracks is to respond with a discussion about feminine issues -- stuff like menstruation, menopause and the like. Now, I do realize that Bruce and our other members of the male persuasion can't contribute personal info on these sorts of topics but they could always share anecdotes about what the women in their families experience :-). VBS -- school must be out for some sort of holiday. That seems to be when the children (age NOT being a guideline for these people being children) post this tripe. I think they feel they will shock or irritate all of the "old women" who read the NG. Methinks we need to get out our doilies and hats with swans on them, etc. just so that we can help the poor children feel fulfilled -- LOLOL! Little do they know that many of us could singe the hair of these kids with what we have done, said, experienced, etc. during our lives :-))). CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I think we've said much worse here, plus you don't seem to have a problem discussing other male or female anatomy.

By the way, your silk quilt is beautiful.

ME??? Discuss other male or female anatomy???? Did I do that?!?!?! WHO ME?!?!? LOLOL -- you're right, I don't have a problem discussing much of anything except religion and politics and I *ALWAYS* do it in a dignified, sedate, ladylike manner (and if THAt don't trigger your gag reflex, nothing will!) . Oh and hunting, too but we won't go there again :-). And thank you for the lovely words about the *((*#$&*@#%$ silk quilt. O truly enjoy working with silk. I have now discovered that making pieced blocks with it is an order of magnitude worse than a P.I.T.A. CiaoMeow >^;;^<
