Newbie killed a pot

I told you a couple of weeks back about a large urn I coil-built. Well it's been drying slowly in the shed and I've been looking and it and I decided I didn't much like it. I was happy with the construction, I learned a lot in making it and I enjoyed making it too, but it just didn't have very pleasing proportions to me. I wondered if I'd like it any better if it was fired, or if I gave it a nice glaze, or if I inscribed a decorative pattern on it.

So I was messing about with it and I remembered that my sister had said you can grind the tops of pots perfectly flat and level by rubbing them on a flagstone in the garden, so I gave it a go and my urn broke off at the collar. My first reaction was "Good, I never liked the bugger anyway. Now I don't have to fire it".

So I think I'll make it again with different proportions this time. And I won't try the thing with grinding the top smooth.
