Pit-Firing colors

Aug 02, 2003 3 Replies

Hi, am doing a second pit firing and have been told I can do various things to enhance the colors of my pots, thing is what are the things I can do. Is there anyone who can tell me how to increase my chances of getting darker or richer maroon, oranges etc.. What is the best clay to use?

Thanks, Sam

Some folks will wrap thin copper wire around the pieces or place different metals on or around the piece. Give that a try. I don't know what will give you specific colors though. Steve in Tampa, Fl, USA

I put overripe-rotten tomatoes on one of my masks and got a pink.
