I am a beginning potter. I am considering starting out with an Artista portable wheel, because I'll be turning at home, at my farm, and at a friends house. A 100 pounder wouldn't be convenient for that kind of running about. Any comments on that wheel?
If I get really hooked, I would consider a larger wheel to keep in my studio. They generally start at 1/3 horsepower (at the motor) and center 50 lbs. of clay. Next up is 1/2 hp and 100lbs. My question: How many potters actually need to center 100 lbs. of clay. That's huge! Is there an advantage to having that much capacity for most potters' needs; much less what would fit in a kiln. (I have a skutt
231).Any personal/practical insight on this would be very helpful.
Thanks!
Mike
