the color of bisque

I am using as cone 10 sand-less B-mix clay and having trouble with my pyrometer, (it's a new kiln). Anyway, I have been just shutting the kiln off when the color looks all nice & glowy red. This is something I used to do before I had a kiln sitter, or pyrometer.

The wear has a slight pink tone to it, it seems like he bisque process has been successful. Does this sound OK? Still figuring it all out. Sa Námarië

That kiln of yours has a kiln sitter on it? What cone are you putting in the sitter? Are you shutting it off before the cone bends? Doing bisque the way you describe is kind of playing with fire. (Excuse the pun.) You never know if your ware is going to accept glaze after, and your absorption rate can vary greatly. Bisque to 05 or 04 at least, with B-mix.

You will find that your glaze results will be much more consistent.
