underglaze

I like to make bowls from a cone 6 speckled stoneware and decorate with dark blue underglaze and dip in clear glaze. I have had problems with the underglaze getting what looks like small bubbles that have burst and was wondering what I am doing wrong. I bisque at cone 06. The directions on the underglaze says to give it 2 or 3 coats. I do but maybe too thick in places? Thanks for any information on this problem. Sandi

Do you soak when you bisque. You should so that all impurities have time to be burnt out. It sounds maybe like pinholing which can sometimes be caused by impurities. Underglaze can get too thick. My advise would be to try to soak for 30 minutes in your bisque. Just a guess though.
