In talking with someone at the show -- someone suggested something I'd never heard before.. but it makes such PERFECT sense.
When you sew your label to the back of the quilt, you do it for a number of reasons. One, though, is to identify you as the owner of a quilt should it be lost or stolen.
In the case of a quilt that has been taken -- you can be sure that the thief will be quick to remove that label with your name from the back of the quilt. BUT -- if you had taken a PERMANENT marker and put your name, address & phone number on the actually backing fabric it can't be removed. It doesn't have to be pretty -- because your pretty label will cover it up!
Now why didn't I think of that long ago?
