Another completed quilt

I finished the full size Log Fence Quilt from the Barbra Brackman "Quilts of the Civil War" with some reproduction Moda fabric. I had made a large wall hanging, as a test of the pattern. Here is a picture of the quilt just out of the dryer with some of the wrinkles still present, and hanging for picture taking. Harriet Hargrave Wool Batting and black backing cloth, makes for a warm but somewhat somber quilt. Considering the time frame of the original, is it any wonder? I plan on using this one on our bed as a comforter on cold nights. The size is 72" x 72". I love the Harriet Hargrave wool batting. I have been using it exclusively for quilts that I make for myself. Not too heavy, and, oh so warm. Nice full loft, also. Here you go.

It's beautiful, John! Our LQS has several quilts made up similar and of the Civil War fabric and they are of similar colors. You should be so happy with the way it turned out, quite stunning indeed! Donna

Yes, somber, but very interesting. Lots to 'see' in this one with that variety of fabric. Well done. Pat in Virginia

Beautiful John! Although I think somber may be a bit of an overstatement. The reds keep it from being too somber. Seems just about right imo. :-)

That is what I thought also. It does have a lot of black though.

True, but the black sets off not only the reds, but the blues. It's a stunning combination.

I think that is why I do love some of the local Amish Quilts. Their use of black, when paired with solid colors. It can be very dramatic. John

Try "sober" rather than "somber" .... I really like it

The only reason I used somber is because of the Civil War provenance. A somber time indeed.

Exactly! I'm very partial to black myself. I'm cutting for a Storm at Sea which will be done with a black background.
