Applique Alphabet

Howdy. In the interest of saving time, I hope someone can provide a link for an alphabet to appliqué. I do NOT need themes such as A + Apple. I just need the letters so I can form words and initials. This is for a Virginia Tech Memorial Quilt, so I'd want a clear, dignified font. THANKS BUNCHES!! PAT in Virginia, USA

If all else fails, Pat (and I shouldn't think it will, as you have been given several sites), you can always choose a font on your computer and enlarge the letters you need to the size you want. . In message , Pat in Virginia writes

Can't help specifically with a link - but when I want something like that I resort to my embroidery books. Second hand shops are great for cheap books of transfers too. And check out the fonts available in Word (or similar programs) blown up to largest size. I have used them as stencils to quilt monograms in blocks.

Some of the little pictograms in those fonts are nice applique shapes too.

Have you searched on "calligraphy"? Who knows what will come up!

Good luck.

I can't overwhelm you with my expertise on fonts. I only kind of understand that some are called something like 'sans serif' or something like that - meaning without any extra little diddlies that make the letters pretty and easy to read. The barest ones would be best for applique unless, of course, you're planning to make the creation of this quilt a permanent career. Let me urge you to study the letters carefully and be sure that you choose one that will look very nice without severely testing your sweet disposition. Please do share your adventure with us. Polly

Your computer is a GREAT source of letters for patterns. You can use your word processor to make the letters any size you want (72 points is 1 inch -- you can make them any size.... 500 pts... 800 pts... whatever.

You can find dozens of fun fonts here...

Just download the font... and be sure the TTF file ends up in your FONTS folder (Usually in your Windows folder on your C drive)

If you are looking for something specific ...let me know... maybe I can help you find a specific font style.

Have fun!
