AQS book sale!

I was going to state 'NAYY', but I am a member of the American Quilter's Society, so maybe I *am* affiliated??? Any way, I just bought SEVEN quilting books- including shipping- for less than $30!!! There's a nice selection of quilting books on sale- one about making quilted books and several books for baby quilts and several different technique books. Get busy and buy some books! (You can still buy their books if you're not a member, but members get an extra discount. VBG)

Interested in baby quilts? My book "Rhyme Time Blocks" is published by AQS. You might have to ask for it. See examples on my website below.

McTavish is road not yet taken for me. I see that she has two books; where do I begin? Polly

If you lived with a retired chemical plant superintendent, you'd want two kitchens too. Yesterday, I was measuring a cup of water for something of no consequence. I wasn't making napalm or cough syrup, just instant potatoes or something. DH came by and said, "You need to put that cup on something level and let it get still to get it accurate." Yeah, right. Keeping him out of My kitchen is good for his health. Meanwhile . . . back to McTavish, do I want 'Secrets' or 'Mastering' ? Polly

Hi Polly - I just purchased 'Mastering' and 'Secrets' from Connecting Threads where they are still on sale. I paid $14.97 each for them - both these books come with a DVD - their shipping isn't bad either. Of the two, I would recommend the 'Mastering' if only one is to be purchased which also has an excellent section on feathers. jennellh (change the mail to news)

Sorry, I've just been swamped... but Taria's face automatically appeared in my fabric while I was quilting so I thought I should pop in ;-)

Mastering McTavishing is on just that, how to do her fill known as McTavishing and appropriate place & scale in a quilt. Elemental is on trapunto and goes into shadow trapunto in depth and detail, from drawing it out, tools & batting etc. And this years release is a reprinting & update of Quilting For Show. Have all three, all three come with DVD's... love all three... Polly, call the grill a third kitchen and buy all...... :-)) I'm jealous of that third kitchen too....

Now I must go back downstairs and chain myself to the longarm... I'm trying to do a surprise for my DH for our anniversary while he is out of town.... you know... on top of being the only parent etc.

Well, *I* say thanks, but my hubby and my bankbook might disagree! ;)

Thank you for your help. My McTavish book is ordered. The questions asked to order online sometimes annoy me, sometimes they just give me an opportunity to get creative. The year of my birth? Indeed. I always add or subtract at least ten years. I've been meaning to find a good phone number to use for online ordering. That might be fun. Polly

I have 'Mastering ...' and love it. Don't know about 'Secrets' - but then perhaps no one is telling? >g< (You will love her writing style!) . In message , Polly Esther writes

Oh dear, I'm a computer scientist (some people would say that cs is not "real" science), and I still put the measuring jug down to check the level...

ack, if you need an accurate measurement, then of course he's right, but that kind of stuff needs more accurate than you can eyeball, but not so accurate you need to do that - besides, a lot of things of that ilk will require different amounts of water each time dependent on lots of factors, such as how humid it is, or what temperature it's stored at, perhaps he should have a device to measure all of those and precisely calculate it!

Thank you, Anne, but I am not going to mention it. Can't you just see me taking hours to accurately measure one cup of water factoring in all of the variables? That's the very reason why having His and Hers kitchens is an excellent idea. Polly

"Anne Rogers" ack, if you need an accurate measurement, then of course he's right, but

You just HAD to share that info, didn't you?!? Thank you thank you thank you thank you.

I am a member. Wonder what email or real mail I missed announcing it. Who cares! That's what RCTQ friends are for.

Thank you. (Did I remember to say thank you?)

I agree ... cooking, even instant potatoes, is supposed to be a kind of art. Rachael Ray (NAYY - I just love her recipes) uses measurements like "palmful" or "twice around the pan" ... and it always turns out good - even though I'm sure her "palmfuls" are smaller than mine! :)
