Hi from absentee oldie - Melissa in NJ

Hi all, been a forever and a day since I have posted (though I do catch up with some of you on the RCTQ postcards group from time to time).. I had sent an email to Leslie and the Furbabies asking her a question and she told me to pop in and say hi...so I am!

I have been EXTREMELY busy these past two years. I am the president of my 200+ member quilt guild that is also a 501(c)(3) charitable and eductaional organization. Myself and the executive board have worked very very hard these past two years to revitalize a guild that was coming off of ugly and financially troubled times. I am biased of course, but I think we have succeeded and when we step down in June, we all can feel like we have accomplished something. The drain on my life and energy these past two years hasn't been horrible (except in the months leading up to the quilt show) but it has been near constant. I haven't quilted all that much these last two years! Uggh! I am saddened about stepping down in June after two years at the helm...but I am excited too! I get to just sit in the chair in the audience again! WOOHOO! At least until I take up some other new mantle. But I am having down time first!

I did take up another craft as well recently - wire wrapped jewelry and chain maille jewelry. That is so far the opposite end of the quilty sp ectrum but it is no less fun and relaxing and satisfying. Quilting is soft. Jewelry is hard!

If you want to catch up on my works please see my blog (not and ad or anything...just if you are interested).

You'll see some postcards I sent to RCTQ people and others. A lot of jewelry, and some quilting.

My personal life is largely the same. Changed jobs a few times. LOVE this one and it has real career growth...something lacking from my last several jobs. My husband is good, though he is recovering slowly from a back injury playing soccer. Still have a horde of animals, though we lost one of our greyhounds in June 2006, but picked up a cat later on. So we have 2 greyhounds and 6 cats...so "Eight is Enough" or the "Boos Zoo" continues.

My sister has a wonderful 21 month old that we just SPOIL to death. He doesn't have his quilt yet...only a quickie quilt to tide him over. He was far down on the To DO list!!! Though I did make him pillowcases for Christmas and he has his baby pillow I made.

So all in all BUSY but good.

If you are near Lahaska/New Hope, PA stop in from Mid-January to April at Peddler's Village. One of my quilts will be on display in the gazebo in their yearly quilt show. Most years I enter something and have been lucky enough to place. YAY!

I hope you are all well. I pop in from time to time and read some posts and see the old familiar names. :)

Melissa, good to see you! It sounds like you have been busy in a really good way. Congratulations on turning a sad guild around. And yes, do take down time before picking up another job that will keep you from enjoying your own crafts and arts.

Take care and do come see us more often.

Hi, Melissa, glad to see you back. Don't forget to fill in the form for the Directory before the end of the month.

I love your jewelry, especially the rosary beads. I too recently got hooked on making jewelry, mostly simple beaded earrings and bracelets. I made personalized scissor fobs for the gals in my quilting group for Christmas. I actually just finished making snowman earrings for my boss for her birthday next week. I used swarovski crystals and beads. They are so cute and so easy to make.

Anyway, my mom also uses the rosary and I was recently thinking of making her one for Mothers day and then I saw yours! Talk about timing.

Rest up. Glad you're back.

Welcome back Melissa!

i used to live quite near Peddler's Village. They had a women's clothing shop there that i just adored. i think it's closed now. But congrats on the placing! i love your Rosary beads. they're really gorgeous. My mom and sis and i went to the shrine here in NY, in Auriesville, this past summer and all bought new one. yours are just beautiful.

Melissa, I'll be sure to stop by to see your quilt in Lahaska. I didn't realize they had a quilt show there! We're through there constantly it seems, particularly Spring thru Fall but usually just driving through. When does the show start specifically?

Also, if you have time in an obviously busy schedule, could you email me off list? It sounds like the adventures with your guild are similar in nature to an organization that I've been president of waaaaaay too long. I'd love some advice/input on how you got through the 'uglies'. blackwell _ kim @ hotmail . com - remove the obvious.

Good to see you back even though I'm mostly just a lurker myself.
