As promised- The Pattern!

Sorry to be so late getting this posted.... the gorgeous Oriental fabric I chose had other plans than mine. I thought it could stand on it's own, but it demanded something special! That took extra time- quite a bit of extra time! It has a pretty Oriental-ish looking pieced and appliqued pocket on the front. It is much happier, but now I'll be up half the night doing my nails for work tomorrow! LOL

Use a 1/4 in. seam allowance- except in one place clearly indicated. I am going to assume y'all know about sewing and I am not going to remind you of the obvious- like trimming selvages, pressing at each step and pressing seams open, backstitching to secure seams, trimming corners before turning, adding interfacing as needed, etc. Be careful to not get too much bulk- only interface if necessary and keep it out of the seam allowances.

I highly suggest using Warm & Natural for your batting. You will not have to baste and it feeds thru the machine nicely- since there is no backing fabric when you quilt. I tried another brand of batting and it got all caught up in my feeddogs. My Janome was NOT pleased! Quilt any way you like- it's mostly just for background. I usually use a large-ish meandering, a diagonal grid, or "headbands" and "bananas".

So, without further ado..... here it is! (Click on each picture and the instructions will be at the bottom of the picture.)

Great job Leslie. I just cut out a tote bag tonight, but now I'm tempted to put it aside & work on your bag instructions. You're so generous to share it with us all. Thank you so much!

Leslie, that is lovely... I adore bags, and had followed the discussions about bags here for a while. And now I might have to make myself a new one!! :) (What a shame that will be.. NOT! LOL!)

Good morning, Leslie. We already have a handbag-making maniac in the family so I won't be doing that. It just must be quite addictive since she may even have the fellows carrying handbags soon. Just a word of advice from my Aunt Jess who was both a beautiful and wise woman. She always said if you don't have time to do your nails to simply put on some extra rings. They'll be so distracting that nobody will notice if you have fingers or not. =) Polly

Polly, that's great advice! Unfortunately, the few rings I own are not nearly flashy enough to distract from anything! VBG
