Attn: Australian quilters

Today I am preparing to attend the large quilt show in Rosemont (Chicago area). They will be collecting fabric, tools, etc. to ship to quilters who lost everything in your fires. I want to send fabric they will enjoy. I will be living in about six hours but will probably return to the show again on Sunday so could take a second donation in case you are all asleep right now.

Fabric with pinecones and pine trees? Bears? I have yardage left from quilts made with what we call a Northwoods theme. This isn't Christmas type pine trees but more like pine trees growing in nature. Do you relate to this type of print? Many here in the US don't but others think it is the most wonderful way to decorate.

Oriental prints? These aren't the real silks but cotton fabric with the oriental look.

Florals? All types. I am assuming that someone will like florals.

I plan to send yardage rather than scraps so they have something for borders and backings.

Good morning, Susan. I think your timing may be off. Seems like to me that our Ozzie buddies are probably still asleep. How just very wonderful that there are plans to send fabric to the fire survivors. For sure, anything you send will be gladly received and welcomed. Good, good for you. Polly

I couldn't understand your response until I re-read it several times. In my post "living" should have been "leaving"! OK so maybe I will be living when I go to the show. Packed up the florals for now and will wait for a response about Northwoods fabrics.

Didn't think about different style fabrics until I started to pull a few things together to take. That "Northwoods" stuff you either love or hate. Can't see it being used much in the swamp. I am packing the florals to take now. If I return on Sunday I can take more. Sunday's trip depends on how Mom is feeling. Today my husband will be staying with her. Sunday my son will be with her. I have never left her with my son for more than two hours. A trip to the show would be four or five hours. Sorry to say I have lost my experienced "Grandma Sitter" as she moved last week. Two other friends have volunteered to help with Mom but they are both out of town right now.

Susan, Thank you on behalf of all aussies affected by the fires. Any fabric patterns would be lovely. The northwoods would be great - these areas are all wooded forested areas and I'm sure American style patterns would suit perfectly. Their winters are very cold. Cheers Bronwyn

Yes Polly you were right, I for one was asleep. Susans post was time stamped as arriving at 11:39pm.

In answer to Susan I think any thing would be okay.

I have heard of tops (as well as completed quilts) that have been donated on a number of blogs, but these will all need backing and binding. I don't think anyone would say 'no I don't want that " to a donated backing.
