charm quilt

I finally have over 800 diamonds for my charm quilt, and am working my way to 1,000.

  1. Do I just start sewing (tumbling blocks) by going light, medium, dark, or do I try to figure out some design?
  2. What do I do with the edges when I finally get there?

If it were my quilt, it would take me forever to figure out just the right placement, but that's just me. I think as long as there is enough contrast from block to block, it will look beautiful.

As for the edges, I have seen other quilts where they trim the edges leaving a 1/4" for adding the binding. I can't wait to see your finished top. Don't for get the pix!

My inclination would be to just start sewing, but I've seen some lovely quilts by more organized people with carefully planned color gradations, either across the color wheel or from light to dark. Kind of depends on your charms. And your patience.

There are a number of ways to handle odd edges. You can appliqué to a straight border strip. You can make half-pieces to fill out to a straight edge. You can sew the whole top together into a tube, and then slash. (Gasp!) I've done all 3, and there are probably more ideas out there. Roberta in D

Needless to say, you struck fear into my heart with your last comment. Interesting, though. Helen in MN

I think I would love to do it by color, but then I might never do it or fear of not doing it right (did I just hear the quilt police siren???????)
