OK, so I was pretty sure all my hand dyes had been rinsed several times. And perhaps they were....but I just took out my "curvy squares" that I rinsed again so I could block it, and there are several places where the colors have bled together. It's again in the wash with a color catcher...(forgot the first time) and synthrapol (though it's probably really too late for that to be effective). Cross your fingers that everything washes out and/or isn't very noticeable. Shucks.

Not looking too promising. It's mostly yellows with redish/pinkish stains....maybe I'll just pretend it's part of the fabric design. Yeah right. Oh well. Perhaps it will be less noticable when dry though I'm sure I'LL notice it.

It's this one that I finally finished quilting. I'll live. It's just that I should KNOW BETTER!!!! I was distracted and forgot to take some precautions when blocking it. Sheesh. Sometimes "live and learn" doesn't apply to me! This isn't the first time.....and I KNOW these were rinsed several times before using. Sometimes the hand dyed reds and purples just don't quit bleeding. I forgot the color catcher the first time and only used one the second time...it was quite dark when removed. OH well.

I took a hand-dying class from Shelly Stokes earlier this year. She told us that yellow is notorious for picking up loose dye. :( I hope you can get it out.

Thanks Jeanne. It will be OK. Just a good kick in the rear for me to be more cautious. This was a class project, so it's not like I thought it was some precious original

I would like to take a class from her. I have her paint sticks book.

Howdy!

This is so pretty, Kathyl. I see puppy tails wagging; Gene sees it over my shoulder & asks, "Is that peppers? Looks like hot peppers. Great colors."

Hope you catch that color.

Well, the final result is the yellows are now pink tinged. And the white polka dots on the border fabric are also pinkish. :-( I suppose I could keep trying, but I feel like I'd probably make it worse. I might try once more after a quick show and tell at guild tonight. My challenge will be to just show it and keep my mouth shut about what's wrong with it. Don't we always do that??? Point out the flaws?? I'll let you know how it goes.

Kathyl, that just makes it "custom" fabric. Dyed to go with the other fabrics in the quilt.

YES! That's the answer! Isn't it the Lunns who have the black and white patterns that are to be overdyed? I'll just pretend that's what I did.

Do you have any "Grandma's Secret Spot Remover"? I used it on a purse I made that bled the first time I used it in the rain (had prewashed all the fabric too) - had red dye bleeding all over it, and it came right off with the remover. I hope something works for you!

I'm sure I've seen it at places like TSWLTH and Hancock's. Maybe at the grocery store too.

I hope I don't need that much stain remover! lol Not unless I forget AGAIN to use color catcher and rinse rinse rinse (though I'm not sure that always helps) my hand dyes before using. I'll check with my local sewing shops. Thanks Jeanne.

Okay, Kathyl, start thinking "peach" instead of yellow and "blush" instead of white. I can't think that -- given how beautifully colorful your quilt is -- it's truly a disaster (at least, not a disaster on the scale of the hot pink Christmas tree skirt DD#1 now has after washing this red/green item with a bright red rug).

Do you need some tape for your mouth? ;) Show off that quilt! Flaunt it! It's beautiful! And keep your mouth *SHUT*! LOL!
