Ack! (Not OT)

I rinsed out a red batik -- gorgeous fabric. I used it in a miniature red/white quilt for a challenge, and I've now finished the top, complete with photos transferred into the spaces that I had decided to use for the purpose. I pressed the top -- and my iron spat. Now the red batik has run a little into the white. It's just enough that it's really visible, and I'm afraid to do anything else to the quilt top, for fear of making it worse.

Can someone tell me whether it's Retayne or Synthrapol that's supposed to take out extra color? Is there a better alternative? Do you think it's safe to do anything to this top before it's quilted and the edges secured in the binding?

Ideas? Help? Miracles? Should I give up, wash the batik again (I have to use this particular fabric for the challenge), and start over?

Thanks!

Oh what a real shame, Sandy. I'm afraid that, (of course), I can't remember the name of what substance to use. I don't think it is Retayne, though. I don't mean to increase your heartache (or fury?), but if it is just one piece of the white, and you haven't quilted it, could you unpick enough to remove that piece and replace it with a fresh piece? Fiddly I know, but you could probably do it neatly by hand - which wouldn't be too much of a chore if the mini is small? I am just clutching at straws ....offering sympathy. I'm sure someone will be of more help . In message , Sandy writes

Howdy!

Que' lastima; lo siento.

In my experience, neither R nor S has worked reliably every time; I've had best luck w/ the dye magnet type products, but must remember to add them to pre-wash.

Then there's Carbona Color Run Remover, which will retrieve ALL the loose dyes. It did take out the Red That Ran, as well as some of the repro-green & a bit of dark blue.

Applique' may be your answer.

Good luck!
