Caribelle Batik in St. Lucia

DH and I are going on an Amazon River cruise in February. We sat down this afternoon and booked some of our tours. While we are at the island of St. Lucia the tour we booked makes a stop at Caribelle Batik where we will observe craftsmen creating colourful works of art on silk and cotton.

A person can only presume.....and hope.......to purchase some of this silk and cotton. Has anyone been to this particular place? What sort of prices can I expect to pay? What would be the quality? I would like an idea so I can budget for some purchases here.

Ann......getting excited for holidays now

lucky you, Ann. i just had a look at their website. it says they should be set up for online ordering soon but given the usual pace of life in the balmy caribbean that could be later rather than sooner maybe. there is contact details there tho. you could email and ask what the price range is for cottons. says they also have a small range of dyed rayons so i'd be sure to specify you're more interested in the cottons. at least then you'll have an idea how much to budget for...budget?? yea right ok, well how much to expect to spend. hmmmm, well you'll know something anyhow. just not sure what that would be. knowing me i'd probly end up buying way more than i'd need or use in my lifetime just cuz i might never get back there again. hell why not, eh. dont forget to take a list of favourites from rctq directory, snorfle, just kidding. have a blast and take lots of pix too. ya know we're a nosey bunch who love seeing those places we might never get to see in real life. cheers, j.

What website did you find that at? I've been surfing/reading for Caribelle Batiks and didn't find any online ordering coming soon message so your searching was better than mine.

And yes....lots of pics will be taken and i'm sure I'll be buying "extra" yardage.............as usual.

Looks to me like they specialize in clothing and wall hangings, not yardage. But it wouldn't hurt to send them an email.

I was in St. Lucia last January for my Nephew's wedding. St. Lucia is a wonderful place. The cruise ships dock just below the big hill that Caribelle Batiks sits on if my memory serves me. My sisters and I booked a taxi from our hotel to head up there to see. Wonderful hand "painted" batiks but they do specialize in clothing and sarongs/wraps etc rather than yardage. I was not able to purchase yardage, but I did purchase a few hand painted panels that I want to incorporate into a quilt. I also purchase a cotton wrap with wonderful colors and batik designs hand painted that I wore while I was there but I had and still have every intent to put it into a quilt some day. The view from above the harbour at the manor that houses Caribelle is worth the trip. Quite a small shop really, and when a cruise ship tour arrived the day we where there it was time for us to run!! The demonstration was quite interesting as well. If you are not a golfer then Caribelle is a good choice I think. (I spent most of my time golfing there if you hadn't figured that out) We also went to a tour more south on the Island to see some active volcano hot lava pools and part of that tour took us to a wonderful jungle garden/grotto. I just can't remember the name of this area. It was almost at the Pitons.

Me again sorry I remembered the name of the garden and volcano tour here is an excert from the official St. Lucia website

a.. Soufrière: View the majestic Pitons as you travel to the Diamond Waterfall located in a beautiful botanical garden surrounded by nature finest plants and flowers. From the Diamond Waterfall, drive through the quaint town of Soufriere to the world's only drive-in volcano with its bubbling holes of sulphuric waters.

Here is the link for the website

I think that we went to Caribelle Batiks at Rodney Bay as that was closest to where we stayed.

Thanks Woody. Nice to hear a report from someone who has been there. The brochure pics of St. Lucia looks like it's a gorgeous place.
