NEW QI

Hi Guys, Well, we are the proud new Mom & Dad of Ivy, a medium hair tortie who is about 3 years old. We found out that Bunnie, the calico we had originally been interested in, did not get along with other kitties. Ivy *does* like other kitties but isn't too sure about people and is pretty shy. That's fine with us -- she can take as long as she likes to get comfy in her new home. She is currently in the Jack & Jill bathroom between the guest bedroom and the computer room. Her litter box is in the smaller section with the sink for the guest bedroom. The kennel we brought her home in is in the section with the bathtub & toilet along with a nice warm rug, a big blanket as a nest, food & water. There is a scratching post in the larger section with the sink for the computer room. The door to the guest bedroom is closed and a large screen is in front of the doorway into the computer room. It's set up so that she can get out if she wants but Cassie can't get in. Cassie actually already came to have a sniff and say hello. When DH brought Ivy and the carrier in and set it in the kitchen, Cassie came right in and had a bit of a sniff and looked in the holes on the side. Ivy has already come out of the carrier and had a bit of a walkabout in her new "digs". She was ready to have a look-see out of the screen but then stopped and slowly went back to her "house" (the carrier). I looked and saw Cassie walking away so I'm sure that Ivy didn't want to get up close & personal just yet. Anywhoo, she's very pretty and I will be posting a photo. In the meantime, here is her web page set up by the rescue group, Cats In The Cradle --

Needless to say, I am happy to have another cat baby QI, especially one who needs a family who won't rush her to get adjusted. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

She's almost a dead ringer for our Chloe - Chloe's grey bits are slightly lighter. Is she very soft and fluffy too? (If so be warned that you will be in for years of finding clumps of fawn fluff in places you never imagined possible).

Yes, she is soft and fluffy and that's one of the reasons I chose her :-). I am quite experienced in combing & brushing long haired kitties being as Cassie is a Himalayan!! I find it very relaxing for me AND the kitty if done properly :-). As for the fluff -- one thing about having a tortie -- you get to pick BOTH dark & light cat fuzz off of everything in sight -- LOLOL!

Ivy is just beautiful! Sounds like she has a very comfy set up while she's getting used to her new family. The fact that she's already poked her nose out shows she is curious. Eventually, she'll learn she has nothing to fear. Can't wait for your personal pics of Ivy. :-)

IvyJane (this is the name the animal rescue lady said she was using just because it fits -- I like it so will keep it) is beyond curious! We heard her open up the screen not too long after we had gone to bed last night -- and her being here only a few hours! I'm pretty sure she was underneath our bed because not too long after hearing the screen moving, the phone by our bed started making odd noises. DH and I were just about asleep so I don't know what time it was but I checked the phone and, while it was still getting electricity, there was no dial tone! The phone jack is behind our headboard which offers a superb hiding place for new kitties -- LOLOL! I haven't seen hide nor hair of her but she did use the cat box once during the night and then again today while I was gone. I took the dry food up so she will have to come out when she finally gets hungry enough. I'll try opening a can of food tonight before bedtime and see if that offers any enticement. I have searched this house from top to bottom looking for her but she's not to be found. I'm quite surprised she was comfortable enough to want to go walkabout and have a look-see at her new home. There has been NO confrontation between the cats although Cassie (Baby Cat) did get a look at IvyJane (Garbanzo Brain) through the space where the door hinges are attached to the wall. That resulted in a very short, very quiet "mini" growl from Cassie (Baby Cat) who then turned around and just walked away :-). I'm off to go have another look around the house to see if I can get any sort of idea where she is or where she's been -- besides the litter box :-). CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I'm sure you'll find her eventually, I hope she settles in well for you all.

Sounds like when we got our two kittens last year between Christmas and New Year. Mally was out and about in no time, but Rocky (solid black) spent most of the time hiding in the corner behind the Christmas tree or under the sofa. He was seriously institutionalised after too long in a pet shop - I also wonder if he spent time with the rabbits as he loves broccoli (raw or cooked)! He is still shy, but these days likes to come and see what is on offer when he hears the fridge door open and to sit on the back of a chair where he can see everything that is going on.

We don't have a regular box spring & mattress. In side the bottom of the sofa in the formal living room might have been her hiding place because there very well could be an opening in the fabric that covers the bottom. Either way, she is out and about occasionally. Last evening I saw her at the top of the stairs and she ran and hid behind the rocker in the computer room. Next we found her sitting behind the sofa in the living room and this morning she was standing in the door of the computer room. I had wanted to come in here but sat and waited on the end of the bed until I saw her turn around and walk into the computer room. She was hiding behind the rocking chair until Cassie (Baby Cat) showed up and went to have a look see. IvyJane (Garbanzo Brain) did a bit of growling and Cassie just turned around and walked away. Ivy has left and is likely downstairs behind the sofa now, Cassie is in her accustomed place on the right side of the computer table and I am relieved that things are going along so smoothly. I do want to get hold of Ivy and take her to my vet for her rabies shot & checkup but that can wait for a little while. I don't have her vet records from the rescue group yet anyway. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

DH got a cat many years ago that hid in the closet for over a week. I guess he came out in his own time when he was comfortable. Lilly cat will show up in the oddest places. When she first came here she disappeared. I went for a glass of water she was up in the cupboard lying in front of the glasses. ABout scared me to death. She likes to hang out above the cupboards in the kitchen still. (there is a vaulted ceiling in there) She gets a view of the whole kitchen/family room and nobody can get her. She tends to scare folk that don't know her though.

Good luck with Ivy Jane. She is very lucky to have found such a good home as yours Mary. Taria
