New QI - need some name ideas

We just adopted a new kitty. She's about 6 wks old but tiny. As you can see (or maybe not see) by the pics in my QI album she is a grey and black tiger with a couple of small orange patches. Mom is black and suspected father is a grey tiger. She is affectionate and becoming more playful now that she is getting used to her new home. We could use some help with the name. So far the ideas are Carbon, Tia, and my 6 yr old is pulling for Cheetah. Any other suggestions??

We just got her yesterday, this afternoon she goes to the vet. Hopefully she'll get a clean bill, so we can start socializing her with the other QI's.

Well ... so she's more like a Tiger than a Cheetah; but, as we were just discussing between cow and hippopotamus, little children are usually spot on! I really like Cheetah >g< and she might grow up to be really fast! . In message , Charlotte Hippen writes

Seeing her cuddled up to Sampson ummmm, Delilah might possibly be a good fit ;) Just don't let her near the scissors.

Hmmm -- with those orangish patches, I'd be inclined to think her Dad was a marmalade tabby, hence my suggestions for either Marmalade or Patches as a name :-). Keep us posted on what you decide, OK? CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Thanks for the input Patti. DS will be glad to hear of the support!! She is kind of a fast little thing when she gets going.

That is my other QI Darius cuddling with Samson. The first 2 were of her, but I do really like that name. We'll see what DH and the kids say about it.

I think it may be from her mom (but I don't know alot about cats and their coat colors). The mother was black, but if you looked at her just right she looked a bit brown/orange near her body with the ends being black. One of the other kittens is black with brownish/orange spots about the color of mama's brown/orange another is a bit tiger, a bit black and has orangish spots, and the other 3 are black like mama with some brown tones. The male living there is a grey tiger, but that doesn't mean that he's the daddy I guess (especially when we are talking about outdoor cats).

Thanks for taking the time to suggest a couple of names, I'll give them to the family and see what they think.

Let that dear little one choose her own name. I wrote the suggested names on paper and rolled the names in foil, when kitty is playful toss them on the floor and the 1st one she pounces on, thats her choice! lol

My goodness, she really *is* tiny, isn't she? So cute! I rather like Cheetah, myself.

Cheetah sounds good to me -- she looks like she got her face wiped with a "Cheeto" and it left an orange smear..... such a tiny thing! and soooo cute! ME-Judy

I am an absolute sucker for 6 year-olds. If he thinks 'Cheetah' is the name, that's what it would be. Polly

Howdy!

When you look at her, what comes to mind?

We name our animals that way; Bobbin' the blue-point Siamese used to bob her head up & down preparing to pounce. Dusty is ...well, dust color. Hairy the Guinea Pig was. Stanley sounds like a little Stanley Steamer engine. And, of course, Ragmop so aptly describes my head. Naming the QI this way means remembering which name to yell just by looking at the critter.

Cheers! Congrats! Good luck!

Ragmop/Sandy --who did not question the man on the bike (or go looking for his dog) when our kids told us, "There's a guy out here, riding around looking for his dog, yelling 'Booger! Here, Booger! Here, Boy!' " ewwwwwww

In keeping with your theme of QI names from antiquity I suggest:

Bathsheba Hermione Boudacia Artemisia Melinno Circe Danae

If you want something more descriptive: Blaze for the blazes of orange. Debra in VA See my quilts at

Cheetah... sounds like "cheater"... don't want her to feel quilt!

With her little orange patch... how about:

Sherbet (call her Bets or Betsy) Marmalade Tangerine (call her Reeny)

or just plain Cutey-Pie!

I tend not to name my furry friends for a couple of weeks. They will show personality traits in that time that will suggest names. And if the family cannot agree there are always the cop-out names - C'fa or C4 (as in "C" for Cat).

Given her colouring I am reminded of my mother's rich Christmas fruit cake. Would you consider calling her Fruit Cake rofl?!

She is a little sweety, and I am so glad another kitty has found a good home.

I don't know why, but the name "Hannah" popped into my head when I saw her. All my critters have people names anyway....She an absolute doll!

I don't know, Charlotte, she kind of looks like a Tabitha to me.
