QI check list

So how many of you own the all important QIs?

The last time I came here regularly they were often topic of conversation.

I have a two year old Domestic long hair tabby named Lula Belle. She likes to drag remnants and toss offs around the house. She also likes to nest in the newly manufactured quilts.

I also have 4 (Yes 4) parakeets names T.C., Rick Thomas and Higgins. They aren't so much Q.I.s as fabric samplers.

Awww...parakeets are cute. So much personality! We had one for a long, long time, he was very tame and quite a character. Right now I have 5 Q.I's of the feline variety. We lost our Happy dog (corgi/dachshund mix) a couple years ago.

2 cats: Pepper and Jasper (former boys)

1 dog: Tasha, Cocker Spaniel

2 birds: Lovebirds--called various things from sweeties to loud devils.

The dog is always with me--the boys love to visit frequently and test all surfaces that could possibly be a bed or hidey-hole!

We just have our Jojo dog now. We all miss Angus but there are differing opinions about whether or not another QI is in our future. Won't be kitties. I'm horribly allergic and because I'm immuno- suppressed I can't handle kitty littler. We'll just have to see.

2 choco labs - Sati (10) and Ruby (2) 1 gold fish named Walter who lives in a bowl and has been a part of our family for the last 9 or 10 years. He is a .25 feeder fish from Wally World that belongs to my younger DD. She got him in the 7th grade after the class hamster died and she graduated from college last May. When she moves to the next apt., she gets him back.

Hubby tonight is looking at flat coated lab puppies so we may have more soon....... :-)

Well, I think I'm more owned by my QIs than the other way around,,,they have me well trained :)

Two felines - moggies - George, a dark tabby I bottle-fed and raised and his sister Bean, a brown "ticked", blue-eyed lovely. They both are a bit jealous of my hobby and would rather sit on the fabric and have me pet them than have me actually sew... Bean enjoys taking a running leap into large quantities of fabric and sliding across the floor on it. I actually had to lock her in the bedroom once to cut a pattern when I was sewing clothes!

I am but a lowly minion to Mister Oliver. My reason for worldly existence is to cater to his every want and need and never make the bed until *he* decides he's ready to arise from the night's slumber. The most difficult thing he has ever done was to train me to sew with him laid on his back melting over my lap. I've learned to give him occasional belly rubs with my elbow while working and am rewarded for this maneuver with little squeaky purrs. If I am remiss in giving the required belly rubs a little paw will reach out and hold the fabric until I reassess priorities.

How about 6 QI's. All kittens about 6 months old.

Three boys. Long haired, all black from the shoulders forward and chocolate brown from the shoulders to the tail. One of the boys is losing his winter fur off his hind quarters. Looks like a black lion.

The girls are calico. One is long haired with four different colored feet. She is a cutie and lovable. The other two ladies are short haired calico with a lot of black mixed in.

Had to lock up my stash so my babies will stop playing king of the mountain.

We are having a lot of storms lately. So the boys are curled up in their green quilts, the girls in the red ones playing hide an seek while the storm roars outside.

Mine are 4 bunnies and a guinea pig. (but the gp is really DDs)

I'm just about allergic to everything else. 2 of the bunnies are housebuns, would love them all to be but they would fight like crazy, the odd spat between the pair that are inside now is enough to cope with. I suspect I'm allergic to them but not in the same way as other furries. (I get alot of headaches and am bothered with my sinus but not the asthma as with other furries). I would loooove a little poodle. I have heard they are good for people with allergies but haven't known anyone with one to borrow for testing. Besides which DH says no more pets and definitely no dogs. : ( Hmm little does he know that DD is thinking of getting a friend for her guinea pig. I'm saying nothing. She wasn't meant to get stewie so she has to keep him in her room, that way he gets looked after properly. I occasionally sneak in for a cuddle.

BearCat. About 10 years old now. Maybe a Turkish Van. Got him from a no-kill shelter through PetsMart in Indianapolis. He was about 10 months old at the time. Problem? -- he bites. Not so much anymore. He has started purring in the last couple of years. He'll stretch himself up my leg when he wants to be picked up. That's a recent change too. He has a spot right next to the sewing machine. Well, actually it's between the window and the sewing machine. I think the attractions outside interest him more than the sewing! :-)

There are photos. . . . .

Two cats - Toby and Daisy, brother and sister from the Eglin AFB pet shelter. He's a Manx, which means he thinks he's a dog, and he's a biiiig boy. They're about 2 years old.

Both are very dedicated to their careers as QI's; when I go into the sewing room and start working, Daisy comes in and starts rubbing up against me and purring, she's so excited that we are going to sew. I keep cardboard boxes on the floor of the sewing room, just for their amusement. She'll get inside anything - when I take the plastic cover off of the machine, I always throw it on the floor, and she gets herself inside of it and takes a nap.

They are the reason that no quilt of mine is done until it has been machine washed and fluffed on air dry in the dryer - that gets the cat hair off. Then I hang the quilt to dry in the guest bath, with the door closed, and put it in a bag in the top of the closet until it goes to the recipient.

I feel under QI'd.....

just one! A nearly 2 year old (this month!) yellow lab named Samson. He is still "all boy" and definitely still "all puppy".

He spends is time in one of 3 modes:

I'm Hungry... I'm Sleeping... I WANT TO PLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm dreading the next month or two... as the snow melts in Michigan... and the wet muddy yard resurfaces.... here comes those big paws!!!!

What a catty group we are! Dogs are underrepresented. Cubbe can be seen doing her job here:

Guinea pigs are the cutest things ever. I'd never get one, because the poor thing would be terrorized by the other QI's, and I decided I don't anything else, not even a plant, to clean up after. But my friend has a longhaired one--it looks like a little dustmop on wheels and just has a lovely personality. Sherry

I have some! though they are not reliable inspectors! We have four cats: Tigger (a Tiffany), Polly, Jack and Beau (all seal point Birmans). I also have four rabbits: Sandy (a tan English); Tilly (a tri-colour dwarf lop); Fudge (a fawn mini lop); and the new baby Mumble (a silver fox Netherland dwarf - black and silver). . One 8 year old adopted Lab/Coonhound mix named Jack. That's the name the rescue gave him. I always say he was waiting for me since my name is Jill. If I spent too long at the computer, he'll come and get me to get back to sewing dog and cat "blankies". He will also lay on the pile of "blankies" as I'm bagging them up for delivery to the rescues.

I have two, though one is still in training -- so much in training, in fact, that I'm not getting much (if any) quilting done these days.

Dexter is our 13-year-old lab-chow mix. He's such a sweetheart! Unfortunately, his sight, hearing and sense of smell are deteriorating rapidly -- but he's still a love. :)

Bisou is our relatively new (one month ago) addition. She's an eight-month-old American cocker spaniel and just adorable. She's the reason I'm not getting much quilting in these days. I spend a lot more time cleaning up what she drags in from the garden (grass clippings, twigs, etc.) and trying to work on her obedience lessons. But this will eventually be under control, and she's also a love. :)

You can see Dexter at , and Bisou's page is .
