How many is TOO Many Fonts?

I am curious!? How many fonts is TOO many to have installed on your computer? LOL The reason I am asking is, I got my first copy of Scrapbook Answers magazine last night at Michaels, and ran the CD and installed some of the fonts. wow there were a lot!

After installing the trial program of Printers Apprentice that was on the CD, I find out I have 425 fonts on my computer! This program lets you organize and even print off a test calalog of all your fonts or just your favorites, so you dont have to scroll through them all to find the one you want. ANYHOO....it took 18 pages to print all of mine! LOL I will have to get a folder to put them all in for future reference~ Do you think 425 Fonts is too many?

Aren't fonts like paper, you can never have enough! I have that cd but didn't look at any of the other programs on it. Now I'm going to have to check it out. Thanks Linda.

With windows I read that 1000 fonts are the maximum amount you should consider because when you use programs that make your fonts available (word process, graphics, etc.) each font has to be loaded to memory and it will seriously slow your system down after that point. The optimal amount is no more than

500 fonts.

I need to go through mine to see which ones I can get rid of. There's a lot I'll never use.

So kill the windows machine, get a mac, get suitcase.. I have over 6000 fonts... suitcase allows you to temporarily "install" them so you can use them then turn them off again when your done so they aren't using your system resources. Great application.. you can group them according to anything you want and make "sets"... very VERY handy... :D

That makes sense, but there are sooo many out there! I'll have to find the "delete" button and get rid of some that I will never use, so I can find more!

There is a freeware font loader that allows you to install or remove fonts at will. I have been using it for quite awhile. You could still keep your extra fonts!
