font organization

Susanne, I went thru my fonts and typed the name of the font using the font in my word perfect program and saved the file. If it was a small name I added a few letters to be able to see what they look like. I tend to use a few of the same ones (favorites) over and over again, but when I'm looking for a new one I just open the font file I created and look thru it for just the right one. Sandy

There are several font management software packages available. The Font Thing is free and a good way to see what the "organizers" do. Creating Keepsakes has a package that comes with some additional fonts. I bought the CK software when it was first issued. It had some bugs, but I think they have corrected them. It is extremely slow to load, especially if you have a lot of fonts. My personal favorite is X-Fonter. It can be purchased on-line for about $20. The developer seems to answer questions himself. It handles a huge number of fonts. It also allows you to categorize the fonts and view just a few at a time if you wish. I have tried storing my fonts by foundry, by font name, in folders by type, etc. With X-Fonter, I store them by name but categorize them several ways. Then I use X-Fonter to open whatever category I need and look thru them all. Hope this helps.
